Default Russian Nuclear Missile explosion forces evacuation

https://twitter.com/user/status/1161307963732062210

Crazy story

Russia evacuates a village due to the explosion of a test missile that uses nuclear fuel

Quote:
Russia will temporarily evacuate the village closest to the site of an accidental explosion involving a prototype missile that uses nuclear fuel, according to The Washington Post.

A train will be used to evacuate the residents of the village of Nyonoksa for about two hours Wednesday morning, according to the Post. About 450 people live in the village, although one resident told a local news outlet some residents will walk into the nearby forest rather than take the train.

Quote:
All the evidence points towards an explosion of a nuclear-powered cruise missile,” David Cullen, director of the UK’s Nuclear Information Service, told VICE News.

Russian officials have admitted five “national hero” scientists were killed testing a nuclear-powered engine, and reports of heightened radiation levels in the area have sparked a local run on iodine, which is used to treat exposure to radioactivity.

What're you talking about? The Russian government has already stated radiation levels are totally normal.

Holy ####.

I'm not mad, but you guys joke about this stuff too easily. This is a catastrophe with many human lives at risk. The Chernobyl reference is appropriate, but only insofar as the government is likely going to cover up how bad it really is, putting even more lives at risk, and then they'll throw human beings at the problem because life is cheap in Russia. Putin was born out of the old Soviet regime. He'll handle it roughly the same way.

It’s scary that Russia is developing nuclear-powered weapons like this. Even if they work perfectly they spread dangerous radiation, and this accident shows how catastrophic it can be if they fail.

Hopefully this event breaks the Putin regime, just like Chernobyl broke the USSR.

Soviet propaganda machine now in full swing, tells doctors experiencing radiative cesium exposure near the site of the nuclear missile explosion, that he must have eaten "Fukushima Crabs"

Quote:
“The patients’ escorts told us that they’d all been decontaminated,” Meduza quoted a hospital physician as saying. “[The escorts] said, ‘They’re no danger to you. Get to work.’”

The Arkhangelsk regional hospital had to be decontaminated after traces were found of the radioactive isotope Cesium-137, an unnamed medical worker involved in initial relief efforts told the independent Novaya Gazeta newspaper.

Nuclear medicine experts in Moscow later told the doctor with Cesium-137 in his muscle tissue that he “must have eaten some Fukushima crabs” — a reference to the 2011 nuclear accident in Japan — after he told them he’d vacationed in Thailand sometime in the past few years, the Arkhangelsk regional hospital physician told Meduza.

Joking aside, given the Russia's huge spotty history of quality problems with its products (see Chernobyl, current nuclear missiles, defective fighter jet designs, exploding aircraft carrier power plants, etc), why aren't people, specifically Canadians, more concerned about their floating arctic nuclear power plant that they plan to deploy to the arctic to attempt to claim more territory?

Canadian's can complain about it all we want. But we haven't taken arctic sovereignty seriously for decades, and now we don't really have a way to enforce our claims. We have American claims, Russian Clains, Denmark claims (I believe) and even claims from China.

Russia's not going to care about what Canada says.

The concern is less about the sovereignty claim and more about the mobile mini Chernobyl parked close to our borders. Russian corner cutting and long history of nuclear safety issues isn't reassuring.
