I knew he was struggling, but I didn't realize he did a Rieder last season ... yikes.

Brad, you already missed out on Burakovsky so if you want to add another disappointing first rounder from 2013 you better act fast.

This kid had so much promise. Unfortunate that it didn’t work out. Wont be surprised if he goes to the KHL now.

He was the 2nd player I wanted the most after Monahan in the 2013 draft (giving where we were drafting). Such massive potential he had. I remember he made more than a few darkhorse lists.

if we ignore the "high standard of playing ability", then yes.

If I remember correctly, lack of humility was a stumbling block for him. Shouldn't be a problem now. He has all of the tools to succeed. Strange path.

Almost seems like neidereiter. Where he struggled had 1 goal 0 assists in 55 games with Islanders.

I'd be shocked if he didn't go home to play hockey.

This whole situation reminds me very much like Radulov.. Just more extreme. I would not be surprised to see him go back to Russia work on all his issues then come back to the NHL and tear it up.

He just spent two and didn’t register a point after coming back. He’s done.

I think one big warning flag is that Nichushkin didn't dominate the KHL either when he went back for two years. His stats were pretty average for that league.
I think there is a lot of things he needs to work on.

I remember some draft pundits saying he was a top 5 talent at the draft and some people here wanting the Flames to take him. This was one of those times the Flames apprehension with Russians came in handy. He's just another hockey player that isn't anything special and probably not good enough to ever excel in the NHL.

Still recall a few posters wanting him sooo bad the year we took Monahan. Yet another Russian first round bust. Haven’t crunched the numbers but I suspect the bust rate on Russians in the first is considerably higher than most countries in the past 20 years.
And Nichuskin himself demonstrated the Russian factor as he took his ball and went home when things got hard.
Be interesting to see if the Canucks pick this year manages to do better than Nichushkin

Don't think we'll ever see this guy in the NHL again barring an epic comeback. He just wasn't that good past his 'okay' rookie season.

Always wonder how Russians are raised to have such a predominance of hubris. Wonder if this is just a cultural aspect in how they handle the discomfort of being in an unfamiliar foreign land or if their genuinely taught that their superior. Obviously there's exceptions, just making a general observation.
