Default Friedman: Frolik trade rumors; Devils possible destination

Quote:
7. Calgary was looking at options for Michael Frolik. That could happen before July 1. New Jersey is a possibility.

Devils make a ton of sense. They want to win right away so they can keep Hall. They have the Hall and Hischer contracts up next summer but have space right now. Frolik can help any team in the league so adding him for a year to help the Devils push for the playoffs and convince Hall to stay makes sense

Frolik for Hall. The trade is 1 for 1.

You should reword the title. It sounds like he's been moved but the rumour is the flames are looking to move him before July 1.

Frolik makes $3 million in actual salary this year with a cap hit of $4.3 million. Should make it easier to move him if Treliving so chooses as most teams come no where close to top of salary cap more concerned with real dollars.

Something around Frolik for Jesper Bratt? Maybe Flames add but potential to replace Frolik's offense

Think the Flames ask for a couple 4th round picks and maybe happy with just one. The return will be underwhelming, it's just about freeing salary.

I was thinking maybe Michael Mcloud, young RHS C but probably doesn't help with immediate impact.

Friedman on Monday said the return would likely be mid to late round picks.

The Devils definitely aren't trading McLeod, the 12th-overall pick in 2016, or Bratt, a 20-year-old two-time 30-point scorer, for a soon-to-be-32-year-old Michael Frolik.

It'll be a 4th-round pick in return, maybe a 3rd. Frolik is a third-line winger who is declining and only has one year left on his deal.

a 3rd would be great, but I'm not holding my breath.

There will be outcry among fans once we see the return for Frolik.

I don't see the point in trading him if the return is only mid round picks. It's not like he's useless. He is still a pretty versatile player that provides some secondary scoring. Sure, you free up some salary but it's not like the Flames are exactly ripe with wingers ready to produce 40 plus points in that role.

Once again it comes down to money. Frolik is a good fit on this roster, but he simply gets paid too much to make sense in the cap structure.

If they get a 5th round pick maybe. Most of us realize if they trade him its a salary dump. I would have to think he's worth at least a 3rd round pick or a package of lower picks.

Not from me. Anything more than a 4th round pick and I'd be pleasantly surprised.

Frolik has posted 40+ points once as a Flame. There are two options: either the Flames promote Dillon Dube, Sam Bennett, or Andrew Mangiapane into his role; or, they decide to sign a cheap UFA option for a very short term to replace him, somebody like Ryan Hartman or Brandon Pirri.

I like Frolik a lot, but in this salary cap environment, he is significantly devalued at $4.3M. I’d be happy with a 4th round pick if it allows the Flames to sign more people. I’m not sure moving him will be enough to sign everyone. The Flames will probably need to move more.

I seriously doubt it. It seems to me that posters here in general are realistic about the situation and understand that this would be a cap dump.

I still bet he is worth a third.
