Wonder if the Jays have a sense already on how much EE is interested, and already moving on to other options.
Either way, nice start to the off-season if some of the buzz is true.

That's what I'm guessing. Can't wait around forever and then be left with nobody when they all sign somewhere else.

The Jays getting the Cuban prospect is good news. At least they are trying to acquire and develop hitters.

With him, Vlad Guerrero Jr., and Rowdy Tellez in the minors there might be at least one major league hitter coming up the pipeline.

One can only hope as their ability to develop hitters has been abysmal.

The news about Morales is good but it still doesn't address the teams need for a decent left handed bat.

From a roster construction standpoint, I think that makes more sense than going over $100MM for Edwin.

Morales and Fowler would be so awesome.

Love EE and JB and what they did all those years, but the above combo would likely be cheaper and brings the versatility of adding 2 solid switch hitters to the line up, plus the speed, OBP and fielding upgrade Fowler would bring over keeping Bautista.

Obviously Fowler over Reddick would be my choice, but Reddick would be a fine consolation prize.

He had an off year last year from the left side, but his career numbers as a LHB are decent. OBP .332 / SLG .476 / OPS .808

In 2015 as a LHB his numbers were OBP .363 / SLG .508 / OPS .901

Sounds like Morales is a done deal?

Sounds like 3 years / $33 million

I like it.

This seems inexpensive at first glance. If that's true. I think I like it a lot.

End of EE as a Jay i would think...unless they want to platoon the two of them at 35 million a year while having huge issues both in the OF as well as the bullpen.

Done deal according to Jon Heyman. Sounds like a 3 year deal as Roof Daddy posted.

I'm a bit sad that this likely means Eddie is moving on, but glad the jays got ahead of the action rather than having to react later.

Well, that'll bring the Jays up to about $130,000,000 to this point, accounting for likely outcome of arb deals, etc.

Still need to upgrade RF from Carerra/Pompey
Still need to upgrade LF from Upton, or at least sign a decent LH platoon bat
Still need to upgrade 1B from Smoak, can't see Morales playing much 1B
Still need a back up catcher, unless the FO sees Jiminez filling that role
Still need to upgrade a BP that currently consists of Osuna, Grilli, Loup, Tepera, Barnes, Dermody....yuck

Of course that assumes they stretch out Biagini like they say they're planning to.

Where does Biagini fit if stretched out. Isn't the rotation pretty much full:
Sanchez, Stroman, Estrada, Happ, Lariano

Where's the spot for Biagini?
Lariano in the Penn?

It's not just replacing the value of EE or JB but also its a first round pick on the line

So Morales , Cuban , 1st rounder and 7-10 million left or EE

I've heard scenarios where they start him down in AAA, or have him pitch more innings at a time out of the pen.More like a middle inning long man, instead of a 6/7th inning holder. Also a factor will be a healthy rotation. Jays got really lucky this season having all their starters stay pretty much healthy the whole season. That's not likely to happen again.

Morales isn't even in the same league as Edwin. Typical Rogers move. Pick up a tier two free agent who they don't have to give term to. I don't know why I actually tricked myself nto believing the Jays would resign Edwin. I should Know better by now.

They just shed about 30 M in salary, why would there only be 7-10 M left? Especially if they plan on upping payroll like reported (I think this move
Just threw that dream out the window).

I think he's just talking about the $$ difference between EE and Kendrys.
