Standard Time runs 1 hour behind Daylight Savings Time.

So sunrise is at 8:24am as it was this morning in Fort McMurray http://weather.gc.ca/city/pages/ab-20_metric_e.html that means that on Daylight Savings Time the sunrise would have been at 9:24am. If school starts at 9:00am, then kids have to travel to school in the dark, and it's dark when classes start.

How is this a troll? Most of my electronics with clocks adjust automatically right now.

Hopefully the Wildrose will stand up and say that it's not the government's place to tell people what time it is. Politicians have no business what goes on in my bedroom, and that includes my bedside clock.

Permanent DST Plllleaaaase!!

Who cares if kids have to go to school in the dark, I think they'd prefer a couple of hours to be able to play in the sun after school. I'd like to get a glimpse of sunlight on my way home from work in the winter. The way it is now I won't see the sun after work again until February. Brutal.

My brother had the perfect solution a while back. Instead of 1 hour forward in spring, we go 23 hours backward. Then one day of the year is randomly removed from the calendar, to keep the years on schedule.

We only get 8 hours of light this time of year and most people work longer than that, so making everyone happy is impossible. Moving further south is the only solution. I'm content to trade our dark winters for nearly 16 hours of light in June.

How is it an inconvenience? I think the inconvenience comes from things like:

Forgetting to change them so you end up late/early. (although most phones adjust automatically)
Having to adjust to a new schedule. Yes its awesome when you gain an hour in the winter, but losing an hour sucks balls.
Having to figure out how to change the clock in my car.
We're waking up in the dark and coming home in the dark in winter regardless, why are we even fighting it?

I don't think anyone would notice a difference.

You realize that your extra hour after work with sunlight is DST, right.

That's what concerns me; you aren't the first person who has said that. Most people I know who are opposed to DST also happen to be the ones who enjoy that extra hour it brings.

Exactly my point. The darkest it ever gets is right now. In the summer, the sun rises much earlier, so you won't have to worry about darkness early. That's the reason we had DST, because the sun was up earlier (4AM Sunrises), and setted earlier. (~8PM)

To all the parents complaining about the time change because of kids, suck it up. We all deal with way worse than that as parents (like the vomiting at 4am this morning in the crib).

Sorry, I misunderstood as it seems most people in the thread are arguing for the extra hour after work.

I prefer the extra daylight in the afternoon myself, but I'd most prefer daylight to fit around my schedule and not be standardized

Essentially, by going back 1 hour in fall and back 23 hours in spring, you've added an entire day to the year. Randomly removing one day from the year (I suggest removing a weekday), brings the year back to 365 days (366 days in a leap year).

(The suggestion is really a joke anyway.)

Changing the hour is nothing compared to how annoying it will be to account for the time difference with everyone who uses DST.

Its a pointless change. Literally changr for the sake of change.

Yeah, if we are going to do it, it needs to be North America wide otherwise it's just going to be a massive pain in the ass.

Well, not sure if anyone else mentioned the kid angle in here, so as this is directed to me:

I do suck it up. Every year, and you won't hear me bitch and whine about it, but if they do get rid of the time change I'll be thrilled. Which is pretty much exactly what was written.

Oh, and regarding the vomit in the crib, suck it up princess! It might suck, but it will never, ever compare to waking up to your child smearing her feces all over the crib, walls, her face, etc. I'll never understand how she got access to that diaper. Those ones-ies are supposed to be bulletproof...

Poop trumps vomit every day of the week. But I think there was already a thread on that.
