Default American Horror Story Freakshow

Well episode one was strange, not scary, and kind of a disappointment to me.

As mentioned in the other thread, agreed. I wasn't scared at all and it was all just very bizarre. If that was the first ever episode of AHS that I watched, I would not tune in again, but knowing AHS, it should get much better. At least I hope.

I think it was weird for the sake of being weird. But it certainly didn't make me jump in my seat at any time.

Season one was exceptional and spooky and disturbing and more of a traditional horror story.

Season two wasn't terrible by any stretch, but it wasn't everything that it could have been especially with the setting. The Bloody Face story just seemed like an after thought.

Season three with the witches - to me wasn't good at all and had a silly happy ending.

I'm hoping that season 4 goes back to its routes in season one, how can you fail with a freakshow, and with a evil clown. But I don't want weird, I want horror.

Well said CC. I loved season one. I was really hoping for more of a return to "what goes bump in the night" style horror, as opposed to trying to freak us out. Yes, the clown was a bit freaky, but not that big a deal actually. I feel more frightened if I catch a few seconds of Dancing with the Stars, than last night's premiere.

Been wondering if I should get into this show. The silly advertisements have always turned me off of it though. I'm all about horrors and scary stuff. If it isn't legitimately creepy though it probably won't hold my attention.

Should I check out the first season?

I quite enjoyed the first episode, each season has been unique in its own sense and they typically build from the 1st episode into darker areas, that clown is so perfectly done; I´m one of those that clowns freak me out and he's about as freaky as they come.

For anyone wanting to check this series out, start from season 1 for sure, its a great series so far for any fans of horror.

The only part that "freaked" me out was the clown.

I thought Season 1 was the best done. Truly scary and a thorough mind eff.

I'm two minutes in.

The milkman sees the murdered woman in the kitchen. It then cut to him with a rolling pin investigating the house. I would have got out of there myself, but if he was going to investigate did 1952 kitchen's not have better weapons available, like say a knife?

Season 1 was fantastic television. I have to agree with the Captain in that the 2nd season wasn't as good but still solid while the 3rd season wasn't quite as strong as the whole witch story with Stevie Nicks kind of lost me. Still though the cast is good and I imagine things will pick up as you would think it would be hard to screw up this season given the freak show setting.

Anybody catch the second episode? The clown thoroughly creeps me out and I've been entertained so far. It was kinda weird singing Fiona Apple for that time era, but what can you do?

Second episode was much better than the first. This season hopefully will get stronger as it goes on.

It's funny but I find that rich kid creeper than the clown.

I binge watched seasons 1 and 2, but for whatever reason never did watch the 3rd. Still plan on it, and am excited for this 4th season as well.

Found this article about "Real People Who Inspired American Horror Story: Freak Show", and thought it belongs here:

Are the seasons independent of each other? I don't need another continuing story to get into/

Yes the seasons are entirely independent of each other. The greatest thing about this show is seeing different characters being played by the usual actresses.

seeing Jessica Lange playing a crazed neighbor, a fairly wicked and then sympathetic nurse, a witch and now a carny is fascinating to watch.

The more I watch this show this year, the more I'm not a fan. Some parts are interesting, but it just seems so out there this season. I just feel like I need to be dropping acid or something to be watching and enjoying this season.

Please, please, please go back to the season one formula for next edition.
