So will the Flames ever get anything from Montreal for future considerations?

Let’s revisit this at the end of the year when he’s on IR.

That is Treliving 101 basically. Bleed picks and spend $$ for older post-prime players.

Well, he looked pretty decent last season too before getting hurt 1/4 of the way into the season and missing the rest. Injuries have always been the issue, not talent or effort. We’ll see if he stays in this year.

I guess we should fire the GM who traded that pick, right?

Glad Monahan is doing well. The guy has a huge heart, and I thought he was groomed as Gio's replacement for the "C" when he got here.
My problem with Monahan was always defensive play. The 1st line would get sheltered minutes, and get hemmed in their own zone against the opposition's 3rd lines. When the transition game was going he and his line were great. However the offense from the 1st line often dried up after the all-star break.

I can never say anything bad about Sean. Sean was a damn good Flame. He did everything right.
Don't blame him for his injuries or playing thru them . I blame training, doctors and the Flames for not having a better plan for him.
When I.look around the league and injured impact players I see teams being sneaky and cheating and they won doing it . We've all watched it happen, complained about it and yet the flames need to seemingly take a page out of that book.
Or do they? Who knows. Just seen some of my favorite players play here get hurt move on reach their potential , see them handled differently and just shake my head at the incompetent manner this org has been run.
BT handcuffed, sabotaged call it what you will this team.
I hope Conroy has some good people surrounding him. It sucks losing SNOWY because we all know the impact he HAD and not having anyone to fill those enormous shoes means fewer homeruns moving forward.
Good to see Sean succeed regardless. Happy for him

They definitely shouldn't be attaching picks to send either of those guys out. In fact, this organization should never trade another draft pick again. Ever.

This is an unrealistic expectation and makes you look like a quack.
Every single team in the league has and will continue to deal draft picks. Ever dealing a draft pick would be like never buying your food from a grocery store.
If you wanted to rephrase your statement to say the Flames should acquire more picks than they deal away, that might be a plausible position to take.

It's extra ironic as I'm fairly confident Monahan is an ideal center for huberdeau. Huberdeau-Monahan-Lindy would be a dynamite line imo.

I still think you’re missing a puck carrier on that line.

Because Johnny hurt his feelings. Hope he runs Toronto into the ground.
Toronto deserves Treliving and Atkins.

That's all on coaching then because he is killing penalties in Montreal.

Powerplay Quarterback

He's playing third line ES minutes with Gallagher and Pearson, 1st PP unit with Caulfield and Suzuki, and second PK unit with Pinard. It's a similar deployment to how he likely would have been used by Calgary if he wasn't traded.
This is healthy Monahan doing health Monahan things...win draws and find open spots in the offensive zone. The negatives are still there, like his inability to carry the puck, mediocre skating, and risk of injury.
However, Montreal's success early success isn't sustainable. They are 28th in xGF, they have a negative goal differential, and they're 2nd in the league for limiting high danger chances despite a really shaky defensive crew (i.e. Matheson, Savard, Kovacevic, and Harris are leading in TOI).
It's nice to see Monahan doing well, but both Montreal and Monahan also started hot last year before reverting back to expectations.

[QUOTE=Igottago;8854602]To be fair to the Flames, Monahan completely looked like damaged goods at the end of his Flames tenure, his injuries really impacted his game. He was a really good player early in his career. Would be amazing to see him recover and be a productive player again. Hope he stays healthy and does well.[/QUOTE
Seemed like season after season he was allowed to play through injuries. Johnny at one point said after a game he couldn't even walk. Flames should have shut him down when he was injured and he may have recovered a bit better.
