Man, if we could add a 70-80 point winger that would be awesome. Its a shame hes not a RW, but still.

He's a right-shooting LW'er. Put Panarin on the top line, throw the left-shooting Gaudreau on RW and....profit?

Taking a quick look at the Jackets roster, their only potential needs are at left defense and up the middle. Losing Panarin they wouldn't say no to a winger either, clearly. Right defense they are deep, and they don't need any bottom six players that don't have the ability to play up in the top six when needed.
They also would like to unload Dubinsky.

Patrick Kane is a RW left hander, who put up some gnarly numbers with Panarin on his line. Actually looked like he cooled off when they traded Panarin and he only played with players of lesser calibre. (Given Chicago had a bad year all-round)
106 points in 82 games 2015-16
89 points in 82 games 2016-17
76 points in 82 games 2017-18 (No Panarin)
Panarin
74 points in 80 games 2015-16 (Chicago)
77 points in 82 games 2016-17 (Chicago)
82 points in 81 games 2017-18 (Columbus)
Gaudreau for comparison
78 points in 79 games (Hudler)
61 points in 72 games (Chiason)
84 points in 80 games (Ferland)

Dubinsky + Panarin
for
Brodie + Bennett + Kylington + Klimchuck?

Panarin seems like a guy that is looking to cash in the most money possible. He signed a contract to get to UFA ASAP and Chicago moved him last summer partly because they did not think they could retain him.
He is easily going to get 9-10M in the open market next summer. He would be an awesome fit if we knew he would sign an extension but I don’t see that happening. I also do not think we have the pieces the jackets are looking for

If this is true I would have to imagine that Jankowski or Brodie would be central to the package going to Columbus.

The Flames would probably have to include next year's 1st Round, which I assume Treliving would be reluctant to do after the Hamonic trade.
1st + Brodie + Fox.
Panarin is an 80+ point player who is 25 years old and has put up big numbers every single season.

If your first would land you an 80 point player you do it.
Every day and twice on Sundays.

But it would have to happen now to make sense.
Seriously though, I would give up a lot to get him but only if they could work out an extension first. We are not at the point where we should trade roster players and key prospects for what could very well be a one-year rental.

He has Vegas or San Jose written all over him, I just don't see what they can offer up to get him that Columbus would want and that they would be willing to lose. Vegas is in that don't mess with a good thing situation and San Jose is reloading so maybe Pavel or Couture +?

Assets that I could see Columbus actually wanting... Backlund, Ferland or Brodie. I think this is a situation where we would give up pieces you don't want to deal, but it would still be worth doing. Unproven players like Bennett or Jankowski arn't going to do it. Jackets see themselves as contenders, and would ask accordingly.

I would bet that if a team that Panarin prefers expresses interest, he would probably end up negotiating an extension. This will effectively provide him with a NTC to some effect. It I am reading this right, then that is a pretty smart (though underhanded) move on his part. There may be another reason for not negotiating an extension with Columbus, so who really knows. Until more gets leaked out, we don't really have any idea other than simply guessing.
I would love him on the Flames, and without question he is the most talented player available this offseason thus far. I am not sure it would take draft picks to get him either, as Columbus is in a 'win-now' mode.
How much of an impact would he have in Calgary?
Gaudreau - Monahan - Ferland
Bennett - Jankowski - Panarin
Tkachuk - Backlund - Frolik
I would bet that he would get that 2nd line going - Bennett and Jankowski need a guy who is experienced. I think it would balance out the lines quite nicely. Falls into the Flames' age group. As a huge bonus, he is a RHS and the Flames would probably love to have that on the PP.
|
Well first off that is not the second line and secondly if you land Panarin he is on the top line not Ferland.

I know it is all a fantasy, but I like the fact you can roll three dangerous lines. Starts creating some match up issues.
