Let's not kid ourselves. A lot of the goals this year were created by him through effort and high end skill.

Only last night could you begin to make the case otherwise.

Mangiapane has been a true sniper all year and he is really hard on pucks and forces goals and high danger chances lots of times through sheer grit and determination. The goal against Ottawa is a great example of this. He also puts himself in great positions for odd man rushes whether it’s in tight or on the rush, goals like the off the skate backhand finish vs Montreal or the give and go with Backlund against Buffalo. He’s also been incredibly focused and accurate at tipping this year last game being the prime example with 2 beautiful on purpose tips for goals. He’s all over the ice and he’s literally driving the line no matter who’s his Center or his winger.

With the right linemates he could be a point per game guy. Hopefully Coleman can develop more chemistry with him that Backlund already has.

I highly doubt that. His vision isn't good enough IMO to be a PPG player.

Not a slight as there aren't many PPG players in the NHL.

I know a few seasons ago I said he could score 30 one day, but looks like he's developed another skillset since then with his new found ability to tip pucks.

Honestly, the sky is the limit for the Bread Eater. He plays so few minutes in comparison to other top scorers. He doesn't play on the #1 PP unit (easily could). I'm not going to put a ceiling on him at this point, if he scores 40 or 50 one day, I won't even be surprised.

I said he was on my no trade list earlier this season, but now it's cemented. He's a big piece of this core and he's just further pushing himself up the list with every game and every goal.

Mangiapane is on an epic heater right now. Everything he touches finds the back of the net. Is this the new normal? I wouldn't think so, but Mangiapane continues to surprise. The one things you can say about Mangiapane is he is an overachiever and exceeds the sum of his skills. Not a great skater, but manages to beat guys to pucks. Not overly stable on his skates, but still comes out of contact with the puck. Not a great passer, but still manages to get the puck to areas for good scoring opportunities. He just wills his way to producing. The more I watch him the more I see a lot of Pat Verbeek in him. Another player who was way more the sum of his parts as well. Hopefully Mangiapane will have similar trajectory as Verbeek as well. He's become a very important player for the Flames and has stepped in for the failing Monahan.

Maybe…. He keeps getting better so I hope he at least settles in between 60-70 every year. Even that may be wishful thinking

Even last night on the SH goal he still makes a great play on the zone exit, fights off the defender in the neutral zone to stay on his skates, then fed the puck to Dube for the breakaway. Then he didn’t shy away from traffic and went right to the middle of 4 Bruins.

That play was 100% based on his effort.

If he ends up scoring 50 we are going to have a big problem cap wise. It is a good problem to have but someone will have to go.

Couldn't the Flames just trade Monahan, possibly with retention, or as a last case scenario, buy him out?

I can't really see Mangiapane ever being overpaid any time soon, so I just hope he gets as much term as possible.

He's probably the most consistent forward on the team - even moreso than Lindholm. Coleman is consistent too.

William Karlsson comparison comes to mind when I think about Mangiapane.

After scoring 43 goals in one season, he got a 1 year $5.25M contract. The following season he put up 24 goals, and then signed an 8 year contract worth $5.9M AAV.

I'll say Mangiapane > Karlsson, but it doesn't seem like a crazy comparison. Does an 8 year contract worth $6-$7M look about right?

25 goals and 30 assists = 55 point player --> A solid top 6 winger would be my guess.

Probably best to find a trade partner who is heavy on C and light on the wings.

I'm guessing when Tre talked with Mange and his agent in his previous contract, he did lay out the possibility that if Eat Bread continues his progress, then he has the opportunity to really get paid after two years if he's confident in his ability. I'm not sure Tre predicted it'd go this well for Mange, but now that it has, he's going to get paid.

If I were to hazzard a guess, and if Mange likes it here, I can see something like an 8X$5.5M type contract.
