Icon56 Jets @ Flames. 7pm MT. TSN3. calgaryflames.com stream

The game will be on TSN 3, but will most likely be blacked out if you are outside the Jets broadcast region.

The Flames will stream the game on Facebook, flames.nhl.com, and their app with regional restrictions.

Jets announced their roster yesterday (no surprise it is going to be very inexperienced). Spoilered for size

Spoiler!

Flames line up will become more clear after morning skate at 10:30 AM MT.

The game should be available with the NHL Center Ice free preview. I watched Sunday’s game on SHAW621 here in BC.

For those who follow the jets, how has Vesalainen looked so far? I would think he has the chance of snagging a top 6 role till Laine and Connor sign.

Very interested in how that bottom 6 looks.

Lucic-Ryan-Mangiapane has the potential to be a good line down low in the offensive zone.

Assuming Tkachuk will be netfront/down low on PP1, Bennett slides into Czarnik's spot on PP2, and Lucic goes to netfront on PP2.

Either way that PP2 is pretty weak. Top group might stay out for the entire powerplay haha.

I like what I see, now just need to get some chemistry going. Really interested to see how that 4th line does, 3 guys trying to prove something.

Glad to see the end of the times when the Flames wouldn't dress their full lineup until the opening game of the season. Huge gear grinder. Need to go into the season actually knowing who's playing together.

I was wondering about this too. But if Czarnik is going to be on the team, he has to be a PP contributor otherwise he really adds very little.

This is pretty well it. Czarnik needs to prove that he can produce points, or he doesn't really add value to the team in any other way.

People say this kind of stuff, but the Flames are really not all that different from every other NHL team.

TB had the best, most productive powerplay in the NHL last year. Their top unit led the team by a mile compiling a total of 168 PP Points. Their next best five players accounted for 36. Last year the Flames #6–10 best powerplay producers registered a total of 28 points: for TB that amounts to an extra point for their second unit every 10 games. For a team with a really productive second unit like SJ it is an additional point every three games.

In other words, the reason the Flames's second PP looks underwhelming is because it is a #2 PP. All second PP units are on their own not remotely impressive.

On paper, yes.

But Czarnik has a heavy shot and could be productive with some better looks on offence. Rasmus has PP quarterback potential that needs to be developed as well. Bennett isn't going to create much but can work in the dirty areas and hopefully bang home a rebound or two.

My only criticism is that Ryan and Backlund are very similar and don't offer a lot -- their biggest strength will be zone entries (which are important but only get you so far). For all the talk about playing Lindholm at centre, I think he would be an intriguing option for PP2 (the only problem is that is screws up your line combos for your next 2-4 shifts).

If Peter's is planning a Lindholm at centre experiment, I really wish that he would start that now, even if Tkachuk isn't there to take the top line duty yet.

Setting up the lines as if they will be without Tkachuk for a full season is just a little overcautious.

I also don't know why you would ever have Backlund on the powerplay over Dube or Mangiapane. Just from a 'why don't we try and score' perspective.

Last year was an outlier for Backlund, who had 9, 16 and 11 powerplay points in each of his prior three seasons. I am virtually certain he will get closer to those numbers this year, and will definitely score more than 2 points.

There seems to be zero reason to think they want to try lindholm at center.
