Do some crazy stuff at night. Barcelonans party hard. We went to a few clubs and would get back at like 6 am.

Honestly...for restaurants, every night we were there we would walk as far away from our hotel as we could before getting too hungry, then would eat and walk back a bit eat and walk back a bit for the whole night. The city wakes up late at night so this allowe us to find our own favorites and enjoy the vibe. The nature of tapas, outdoor dining and the local vibes really facilitates this type if experience. It's unique in the world in my view. Have a blast!!!

I should clarify...

My "kids" will be 24 and 19 at the time of travel.

Maybe the beach request is to look at sone local T&A...

We did one of those hop on bus tours and it was a good way to see a lot of the city in a short time like you have.
Were able to jump off at Camp Nou for a stadium tour, Parc Guell and a number of architectural spots in 1 day.

I've been there a couple times but that would be my recommendation for a short schedule, or hire a private tour guide.

Might give Barcelona a crack this year for a few days. Any recommendations, other than Sagrada?

I'm contemplating staying nearer to the beach or nearer to the "center". Any do's or don'ts?

Bumping this thread as I will be in Barcelona for 1-3 days in early September. Looking for advice on where to stay. Don't want to break the bank but also want to avoid any 'bad / seedy' areas of town. Ideally along a metro line for airport access. I'll be alone if that matters.

Heading there in a few weeks. Didn't really come across any talk of bad areas in all my research. Maybe Barceloneta, and the end of the Gothic Quarter closer to the water. We ended up booking in Lesq L'Eixample at the NW edge of it on Av. de Josep Tarradellas. We'll take the Aerobus for 11 euro return ticket.

Seemed close enough to walk to the central stuff and catch metro to other things, while being quieter and better value for price than the really central stuff.

In the Gothic and Poblenou seems like lots of really really old buildings with no elevators, street noise, paper thin walls, sewer smells, narrow stairwells too tight for luggage, and definitely no AC for $400+/night. But you're 100 feet to everything!

If football interests you, FC Barcelona tickets for La Liga went on sale today. Not at Camp Nou though, it's under renovation this season so Estadio Olimpico instead. We are heading over in mid-September. Should be fun.

Does Barcelona have metro from the airport? I seem to remember taking a bus(and there was nothing wrong with it, easy, clean, quick).

Yes, both Metro and regional trains (if that is the right word) service the airport from what I see. Plus the Aerobus. So lot's of options it seems.

When I was in Barcelona, I stayed at numa | Roca Rooms & Apartments. I was happy with the price, location, and cleanliness.

Ah, the Aerobus, that's what we took. Maybe it was just more convenient for us, I can't remember that far back!

Looking at this thread while waiting for my flight to Barcelona in 2 hours lol.

What is the best way to get from the airport to gothic quarter? I remember taking a bus 11 years ago but trying to find something quicker... hopefully not to expensive. Taxi/Uber options?

The Aerobus goes as far as Placa Catalunya so you’d get pretty close to where you need to be in the Gothic Quarter. There are machines in both terminals to buy tickets. If you choose a return ticket it’s good for 90 days.

You can get there on the metro too for a couple euro but might require changing lines at least once. Takes about the same amount of time as the bus.

Taxi/Uber will be the quicker option.

Stayed here

and here.

https://goo.gl/maps/UTFbk893qAKsQhCf7 - this one has been significantly upgraded since I was there.

Enjoyed both it was about 8 years ago so they may have changed. Would love to go back to Barcelona but I'll probably wait until La Sagrada Familia is completed.

I couldn't imagine telling my wife we're staying at the Colon Hotel.

It did have a back entrance but it was optional.
