Wow, that's a throwback.
I haven't lived in Calgary for 17 years and came to this thread wondering if that place was still open.
Used to go there all the time when we were 18-19ish.

What was the other one in Canyon Meadows by the movie theater?
I want to say AJ's??

I used to go to Mike's reasonably often and my recall was that it was the best bang for the buck north of the river.

Best pool halls in CGY for tournaments/"action" on weekends is Leather Pocket and Hidden Spot, and Chalks (for those in South Calgary especially).

Also shoutout to the new pool hall in Airdrie called Mojo Billiards - 8 new tables, tournaments every Friday night.

For more casual fun I would say Mojo and Mike's billiards are your best bets. Though Mike's can be a mixed bag IMO and their tables aren't the best.

Mikes is straight up nasty. I don't think the floors have been vacuumed in there for years.

I drove by there the other day and it looked like a new pool hall is there in its place. Or perhaps opening soon.

Olympic Billiards was all I needed…

Haven’t been in a bit so that could be true. I remember them closing temporarily a year or so ago, but maybe it was permanent?

Tables aren’t cleaned, either. It’s a pig sty.

Olympic Billiards closed permanently. It was the only pool hall on 17th Ave and one of the only real authentic dive bars in the city. 17th Ave construction, Covid and really strong Covid restrictions on pool halls did a lot of damage. The final nail in the coffin after a decent recovery from Covid was a break into the upstairs space where the thieves were looking for copper. They brook a water line, causing a flood and then insurance became all hell to deal with.

Owner is a close friend of mine and what he has gone through in recent years business wise is shocking.
