If he doesn't show up, what are the possible outcomes??? Do the Avs immediately have to suspend him? Now the Avs don't have to worry about this, but what would happen if they no longer met the cap floor in the event that duchene's cap number is not counted towards their cap if he's suspended by the team?
Sorry for the cap nerd questions, am just curious. Should be interesting how this plays out. Seems that a trade is inevitable within the next few weeks, right??

Sakic is a very reactive GM, rather than a proactive one. I suspect that if Zadorov and Duchene don't show up to camp, he'll just talk about how he is disappointed, that they will have to be patient, and then ignore it until something has to be done. It's what he has typically done.

Ya, Sakic hasn't really shown he's a good GM...at all. I honestly think he can find a way to screw this up even further, he apparently turned down Hamonic and a pick for Duchene and I think he won't get anything close to that in a return now. I want Treliving to find a way to really screw him over in this, tell him how he needs veteran leadership with a team like that coughBrouwercough and that he has to take a stance against his own players on not other GM's who are trying to help him. These young players think they're too good and he needs a good stay at home well rounded guy on the back end like Spoon or Kulak.
Next thing you know it's Brouwer + Kulak + FHamilton + some other stuff for Duchene. Then he can make a bold statement about how he won't put up with young players who don't want to be a part of the team. He can even use some oileresque terms like "something special" and crap like that.

Probably somewhere to go scout some amateurs. That's his job. Not sure how it has anything to do with trade rumours. Also his name is strangely only spelt with one T, Tod.

NEW YORK – Marc-Andre Fleury can admit now he was preparing for the possibility of becoming a Calgary Flame.
He’ll even go as far as to say that had Pittsburgh Penguins GM Jim Rutherford crafted a deal to send Fleury to the Flames at last season’s trade deadline, the 32-year-old goaltender would likely have waived the no-trade clause he has in his contract.
“I think so,” said Fleury while in New York for league meetings.
“I think Calgary is a great town and a great hockey team too. I think they’ll be very good again this year. But here I am.”

Interesting. I wonder what Calgary was willing to give up.

I think its more about what they weren't willing to give up for a goalie.

It is encouraging that some of the NHL's better known names now look at Calgary as a desirable spot to consider at least!

I mean it's pretty hard to not like Calgary with that defense after the Hamilton and Hamonic additions. And that should be the case for the next 3 years that the blue line core is together, which can only bode well for when the Flames are looking to add UFAs the next couple seasons to help put them over the top.
The way I see it Calgary is on track to overtake the rest of the division in somewhat short order. Edmonton is the only the only other team on the upswing that is close to competing, but they may very well plateau once McDavid's new deal kicks in and they lose the cap space to tinker or add. Anaheim is competitive still but is on a slow decline because of their aging centers, San Jose has fallen to the playoff bubble and just lost Marleau, LA is aging rapidly and looks to have a bleak future as things are currently, and Arizona, Vancouver and Vegas are still in the crawling stages of their rebuilds (or in VGK's case..build?).
There simply aren't the juggernauts that there once were in the west, which paves the way for a team like the Flames to challenge. It seems that the biggest obstacle for them at this point is overcoming Anaheim.

Or the fact that Pittsburgh likely had no interest in a retention deal.
I bet the Flames offered minimal, if anything, to take on the contract knowing they could get Mike Smith on a retained deal for almost nothing.

If the reports of Pitt wanting a 1st are true that would mean no Valimaki, then of course they likely wouldn't trade another 1st so that means no Hamonic either
Great non trade

Actually, wasn't he suggesting that the Fleury talk was during the prior trade deadline, not the draft.
Which would mean no Tkachuk. IIRC, the talk at the time was that Pitt was after our first, which was a horrible idea at the time, and now with Tkachuk, it is abominable in retrospect.

.@Avalanche are close to trading Matt Duchene, I'm told it could happen as early as Saturday morning. I'm told the #Flames are in the mix...

I'm not buying what this guy (Bosco) is selling anymore. But the mind bends at what it would take from the Flames to get that done.

Does this guy have any legitimacy? Honest question.
For discussion purposes, Backlund would likely be involved in the package going the other way.

I can't see how the Avs would be in interested in a center that's a year from free agency as the centerpiece of the deal. I have to think Bennett would be part of the return especially given his contract for the next two years.
