In terms of their impact to the Flames:

Kipper > Jagr

By a large margin.

The margin is so vast as to be incomparable.

Jagr's career was more amazing in its whole, but relative to the Flames its not even in the same conversation.

It was beuatiful watching him kick shots out to the corners and the boards for the defencemen to retrieve. The Flames wouldn't have made it to the finals if it weren't for Iginla, Gelinas and Kiprusoff.

Kipper rang off a few early wins (Montreal and ?) then I went to the game against Colorado- I remember thinking the guy made me really nervous he looked a bit shaky. Flames lost that game in OT I think. that was the last time that year I felt that way about Kipper
I remember that game. 6-5 final I believe.

Except ... that wasn’t the Scorpion save.
This was, where he catches it over his back.

Notes:
* Both are awesome and most goalies don’t make either, never mind both of these saves
* F+ to the guy that spells Kipper’s name in this video
* also Miikka has 2 i’s, for the OP

A very special goalie indeed.

Amazing when a goalie is so special that awesome saves become routine

And 2:05, that is the scorpion save

what's amazing is he went from third string in SJ and from game 1 in Calgary became one of the best ever

Really hope parsons can become half as good at controlling rebounds.

Also I still miss Ortio, i know his numbers looked mediocre but he was like Kipper in that he became stronger as the season went on. How cool would it be if Kipper quietly taught him some tricks and he came back to restore the great wall of calgary?

Ramo was okay too, but only about half the athletisism and none of the rebound control.

Final thing, Smith has never looked poised to me, maybe he should start smoking?

He was so fun to watch. He stole so many games. I remember the epic Kipper chants in the dome.

To this day I still think Kiprusoff's play in games 5 and 6 of the Detroit series in 04 is the best goaltending I will see from a Flames goaltender. The Flames won 3 of 4 games with a defence of Regehr second year Leopold and Andrew Ference pretty much having to play 40 minutes each. The Flames had no business being in that series let alone winning it.

It's no knock on our current goalies to say they don't come close to measuring up to Kipper. He was the rock on the Flames when he was with us. There has never been a goalie that gave me more confidence every game than Kipper.
