Devane takes an insanely dumb penalty and Kossila scores with 2.5 seconds left in the first.

3-3 after one.

I love Rittich but he certainly could have had that third one (wasn't soft, but he had a chance)

Texas held on so now the Heat need to do their job. Start of the second.

Klimchuk with some smooth moves draws a penalty. PP coming up.

Ollas Mattsson reminds me of Regehr. Not the most fleet of foot but will funnel you into the walls with positioning and anticipation. Could be an upgrade on our current bottom pair guys sooner than later. Also they seem to have him playing the right side with old Keith Aulie on the left, and he's looked comfortable there.

Kulak made another excellent stick play. Shades of Giordano / pre-Gulutzan Brodie.

He may not have great offensive upside but Klimchuk definitely looks like a top 30 draft pick. I really hope Mangiapane's skating takes the same figurative strides that Klimchuk's did, as that's the next step for Eatbread.

It's over 5-3 Heat. Rittich was busy and highly effective in the third but this game was definitely a percentage-buster due to the wild first and the ridiculous shot suppression in the second.

Back in a playoff spot.

Heat are in the driver's seat for the playoffs. With the points earned tonight, the Heat just need to earn as many points or more points than Bakersfield does in the 5 remaining games to make the playoffs. Stockton does have a margin of error of 1 point.

Bakersfield's remaining games:
San Antonio *
San Antonio *
San Diego
Stockton
San Jose

Stockton's remaining games:
San Jose
San Jose
Ontario
Bakersfield
Tuscon *

* indicates team below them in standings

Bakersfield has the advantage in the schedule facing the Pacific division's worst team twice, while the Heat have to face the Pacific division's best team twice.
