Basically everything that happens in the US government right now is a waste of time since essentially nothing ever gets passed except through reconciliation. If results are the reason for the US government to do anything - they should just pass a budget and approve judges and then go home for the rest of the year.

It still has to happen. The government can't just shrug off an attempted election overthrow. It doesn't matter if people will listen or not. If they didn't do this they aren't doing their jobs.

Cynicism in the system shouldn't result in stopping attempts to do the right thing.

Yeah and that’s not what he said. That video is terrifying. It's incredibly sad and disappointing that no real consequences will come from any of these hearings, but this stuff absolutely has to be shown and the American public needs to see it no matter which side of the aisle they're on.

In the end it'll be up to moderate Republicans in the Senate to actually show some courage, join their Dem colleagues, and do something about it. However I don't think there are any moderates left, so unfortunately it's likely all for naught.

America right now appears to be on a runaway train heading full-steam ahead towards authoritarianism by 2024, and I just don't have faith in the American people or its institutions to be able to stop it from happening. Scary times down there.

It will be interesting to see what happens if Liz Cheney does run for the Republican bid against Trump. Would she have a reasonable chance of winning the nomination, and if she did, would Trump run as an independent? The Republicans might just go with Trump again to avoid vote splitting.

Cheney is 20-30 points down in her own primary's polling; there's no way she'd ever win the nomination for President.
