Flames name Chris Snow assistant GM
https://www.nhl.com/flames/news/chri...gm/c-309500474
Quote:
Snow, 38, is in his 13th NHL season and ninth with the Calgary Flames. Snow began with the club in 2011 as director of hockey analysis. In his current role Chris works closely with general manager Brad Treliving on all hockey-related matters with an emphasis on utilizing data to inform decision making across hockey operations. Under Snow's direction the Flames have built out a hockey research and development department that supports several aspects of the Flames' hockey operation, including player identification, player performance and game strategy. Additionally, Chris is involved in all player contract research and negotiation.
|
Treliving mentioned Chris Snow as a big part of the Flames' management group during the Tkachuk press conference yesterday.
He was previously their head of hockey analysis (analytics)

Can anyone tell me what Conroy' title is? Does this affect him going forward maybe?

Conroy and Pascall are both also Assistant GMs. This appears to just put Snow on equal footing with them.
Unless there's another announcement coming, this doesn't appear to change Conroy or Pascall's roles.

Confirmed. No changes to Conroy or Pascall's statuses.

I take it this must mean he produced a report saying signing Neal wasn’t a good idea.

I'm going to assume he wasn't in on player personnel decisions before. I'm going to assume the heck out of that.

TRELIVING: Milan Lucic
CONROY: Ten years ago he was a big name. He's going to really help our season tickets at the beginning of the year.
PASCALL: His offence is gone. He's a defensive liability. I question whether the foot speed is still there.
CONROY: Nicholson is so pissed at his decline he's willing to eat up some of his contract to get rid of him.
TRELIVING: That's good.
PASCALL: And why do we want to be the ones to bail the Oilers out of his contract?
TRELIVING points at SNOW --
SNOW: He had a 51.6 Corsi-for last season.

I think that he will be in charge of the analytics side of the team. That's what he did before.
I recognized Chris Snow at the outdoor rink in my community a few years ago and said hi. He said that I'm the only person who has ever recognized him. /Cool story.

Maybe now his parents will be proud enough to recognize him.

I remember Feaster hyping up Snow back in the day. He has been in the organization for a while and clearly has a large impact on many of the strategic decisions.
It seems like he has earned the promotion. Snow has long been the go-to numbers guy, and his role is pretty distinctly defined as compared to the other two assistant GMs.

Article from 3 years ago but still fits
Quote:
For Chris Snow, a Massachusetts native and former Daily Orange sports editor, covering the Boston Red Sox for The Boston Globe seemed to fit the requirements of a dream job.
So when he jumped from covering his hometown team to working in an NHL front office, some were left puzzled.
It was a tough decision, Snow (’03) said, but ultimately the right one.

Bit of an interesting tangent here - I can't speak about Chris Snow but I've met his wife (who used to teach toddler classes). Not only was she fantastic in that capacity, but was also a stellar person.
Here's a great article about a rough patch in their life and what she did in response. I seem to recall she was the beat reporter for the Vikings at one point.

Feaster hired the guy, and in fact Snow was one of the first analytics people hired by an NHL team.
Feaster. Imagine that.
