Ugh I hate smith.
First and only time I’ve ever been to the dome, Lucic punched smith in the head. Good times.

I think I would rather have had smith back over Talbot yes. Neither guy can carry a team but smith is already here and looked good at times down the stretch. I like smith I wish we would’ve had him 4 years ago though. 37 years old is tough but I’m not
Sold on Talbot. At all.

The question isn’t if we’re sold on Talbot. IMO the question is if we’re sold on David Rittich. Personally I think he’s ready for a shot. I see Talbot playing 30ish games, maybe more if he really excels but I suspect Rittich will be the one to carry the load.

They're salivating at the active puck play, thinking it will help them. It will help then transition a little faster yes..
What they're forgetting is the actual goaltending, which is about as bipolar as I've seen from a goalie, and more often on the No Good end.

You brought up a good point though.
What's a better gamble, the guy with .898 behind a first place team turning 38 or a 32 year old Talbot that carried the No Goods nearly to round 3 much more recently than Smith had his last good run.

Smiths penchant for letting in timely goals got into the teams head at times. When a team battles back, gains momentum and then your goalie is letting in stinkers has to be tiring, unsettling.
Teams even talked about forcing Smith to fumble the puck by shooting it harder around the boards and sure enough it worked.
Some constancy from Talbot and we should be in good shape.

Also throwing the puck up to the guy with 3 guys covering him.
So long, Smith.

Luckily Peters wasn’t as stupid as Gulutzan who had Gio and Hamilton going to the corners, waiting to see who got Smith’s pass.
Gully is in Edmonton now, though.

Flames knew exactly what they had in Smith, and could have signed him cheap. Yet chose not to. That speaks volumes.

Tippet connection here, no? With Granlund signing, seems like the Oilers are going to try playing defense.

Personally, I'd prefer to see him retire than to play for them.

Literal quote
"better to play with him than against him I guess"
Which is probably quite true as a goaltender.

Good riddance. One of my least favourite players to ever wear a Flames jersey, glad he signed in Edmonton. I look forward to his puck playing giving the Flames some free goals next year.

Best of luck to Smith, he made the best of a really bad situation.
Still one of my least favourite players to ever play for the Flames.
