Imagine Cecchinato makes a major final before Zverev, Goffin, Thiem, Kyrgios....would be a pretty damning indictment of NextGen.

Zverev just turned 21, so I wouldn't lump him in with the other three you mentioned Senator. He also has won multiple Masters 1000 tournaments and none of the other guys have done that I believe. Dimitrov has yet to reach a Grand Slam final, at least Milos can make that claim.

Yeah, but I feel like we know more or less what we're going to get from Zverev at this point. He's going to be a top player for a long time, possibly a #1, and might win a major title or two along the way. But he's never going to be a dominant force in the sport for any stretch. I suspect he's going to end up with a legacy pretty similar to Andy Murray's.

I believe the correct retort to this is "Someone who's career will still be happening this time next year, unlike you"

Just really nothing to be gained from that tweet - In other news, Genie has started working at the Mouratoglou Academy in France, it's going to be a long road back I'm afraid.

It really is amazing how spoiled us tennis fans have been with Roger, Rafa, and Novak. I think you are right CHL, while Zverev looks to be the best of the young crop coming up (although Shapo will definitely have something to say about that), it's tough to see him being as dominant of a player as the Big Three. The thing is, Novak just turned 31 and Rafa just turned 32, they could still be hunting majors for the next 3-5 years.

The thing with Denis is he's already a top 20 player on hard courts. But unlike Zverev and his polished and developed game, Denis is super raw - we haven't seen what we're going to get yet. Nothing has really come together for him fully, except his forehand. He's still improving with his serve, footwork, net game and his shot variety, and he has plenty of room to get better in those areas. He's also shown signs of improvement. Maybe he never gets there and all the apparent potential is illusory, but until he's 21 or 22, we won't be able to say. If he ends up disappointing, he'll probably be a good player for a while and a regular threat to make semis of big tournaments. If that potential is even mostly realized, he could be a guy who enjoys a period of dominance while his physical tools are at their peak and win a bunch of majors.

We'll have to wait and see of course. But it's worth noting (and no one is suggesting that he is a comparable talent because no one is a comparable talent) that Federer first made the top 20 when he was about Denis's age, and Denis was two matches shy of doing it this week. He'll probably get there by Wimbledon. And all of this while he's still learning. Even after the Nadal victory at Rogers last year and then the USOTC, my most optimistic projection had him in this spot by maybe this time next year.

Tough news for Andy Murray means good news for Vasek (grass court tourney warm-up for Wimbledon in the Netherlands).

How many times has Nadal been broken in this tournament? Or has he.

^^^ Nadal actually gets broken a couple times every match, but he usually breaks the opponent even more. That's the thing about clay, a lot harder holding serve than on other surfaces.

Nadal has started slow each match this tournament. This isn't like last year when he was so above the competition no one was touching him. He's looked off so far, I don't know if he's worn out but I fully expect him to withdraw from Wimbledon.

This has been like a women's match, both guys struggling to hold serve. Schwartzman serving for the first set though...

where is the punch coming from this guy's Gaudreau-sized frame? is it even possible to keep that up for another couple hours?

Schwartzman pound for pound has as much power as anyone. Must have ridiculously strong legs to drive his shots.

I think he can do it, Schwartzman reminds me of Hewitt, he was very impressive beating Cilic at last year's US Open, I think Rafa is in for a battle today.
