It seems like a lot of people like the idea of streaming the games for the league. I don't understand why. I think for this league to have success and grow outside of soccer fans it needs to be on tv. CBC would be ideal. How many people who aren't already soccer fans are going to go online and find a stream of a game ? Seems low to me. However if a non fan could easily be scrolling the TV guide see there local team and turn it on. Both platforms would be ideal obviously, but if it's just streamed I worry about that.

I would prefer both options. I haven't had cable for a few years now so it would be a huge benefit to start with a reliable streaming option from the inception of the League.

I know cable is still strong but it is a dying format, and the quicker CanPL gets on board with streaming the better.

How many people under 40 have cable these days? The ideal model is something like the World Surf League. Website stream / Facebook live / youtube every event worldwide. Archive everything online. Build the fanbase that way.

These days even CBC wants amateur sport to pay for them to broadcast it. I would much rather a high production value free stream than have the club/league pay CBC $5-10k per game.

Yeah I'll second this. As a 30 year old with no tv subscription I'm much more likely to come across a programs YouTube stream than to be randomly scrolling through a tv guide. I agree that tv is still ideal for older viewers and more importantly to be shown in bars and public venues, but the future of broadcasting is online.

Damn I honestly didn't realize streaming was preferred by so many people. I guess I'm old fashioned. I'm 25 but I'd much rather just turn on my tv and find the game.

I love what the league is doing, with the exception of the club names. Valour, Forge, Cavalry? Just strange.

Season ticket holders should be first in queue to have streaming option.

I agree that they should be on both platforms at its inception. There appears to be issues with the rights to view with online streaming vs. broadcasting.

Look at Rogers. I had GCL last year and I couldn't watch any Flames games because it live in Calgary and the broadcasting rights belong to Sportsnet. So my choices as a non-cable fan was to pay for both GCL and Sportsnet Now to the tune of about $50/mo or just find other ways to watch the game.

If you can get one streaming service for all the games, separate from the broadcasting portion with no regional blackout that would be a huge step for CanPL.

CANpl is pro sports isn't it ? Also even if they do have to pay I'd think having games on CBC for a couple seasons would really help grow the fan base. Then sell out the rights to TSB/SN or go full on streaming.

Pacific FC. I can dig it. Logo kind of has a bit of 90s vibe to it, though.

Really like the color. A bit non-traditional on the logo but I like it as well.

Name makes more sense than others. Like the colours. Like the logo. Can't wait for an away day in Victoria.

Next up, Ottawa?

I'm seeing conflicting reports about Ottawa. I've seen some tweets saying they won't be ready for 2019 and then others saying that the team is just waiting for the USL season to end before announcing. Would be good to add the Fury for an even 8 teams to start.

Small correction to this. Victoria is switching to grass for next year.

Another promo vid for the CPL; I really like their focus on good production quality:

So excited for this league and for Cavalry FC! Can't start soon enough!

My biggest criticism of it is that the small font-to-overall-size ratio makes it hard to scale appropriately. Looks good huge, scales down poorly.

A guy drafted up some kits and posted them on Reddit. I don't expect the real kits to be nearly as nice, but damn these are sweet.

Here's some interviews from last night's Foothills PDL Championship celebration with some Foothills players, supporters and Tommy Wheeldon. Focus is not just on the Championship, but about Cavalry and the transition for those involved to the CPL.

Sounds like Tommy is working on CPL contracts already...

Quote:
Case in point, he’s already working on contract offers for some of his Foothills players to join Cavalry FC, which he’ll begin coaching in September.
https://www.thestar.com/calgary/2018...-wheeldon.html

If I had to guess, I'd say Ledgerwood, Carducci, Adekugbe, Pasquotti, Zator and Serban play with Cavalry next year.
