For sure. The coach was pretty positive about Markus after the game, so there is some level of tolerance for rookie mistakes.

On Mikael, he may be a bit overrated as a prospect, but if things keep going like this, one has to wonder if he wouldn't be much better off being challenged in NA. He has school and military service, of course. Can't be bad for Markus to get the minutes.

Brossoit stopped BOTH Reinharts (Max and Sam) in the shootout.

So that's 10 points and 7 goals in 6 games?

That's a Ryan Howse start to the season.

No star for Bill Arnold despite a goal and two assists. That's five points in two games for Arnold.

Prospect Stat Update:

Nick Larson with 1 goal in three games as Notre Dame starts the season 2-1.

John Ramage scoreless in two games. Wisconsin starts 1-0-1.

Tough night for Laurent Brossoit - 4 goals on 17 shots and pulled after 40 min in 5-1 loss.

Max Reinhart with a goal in a 2-1 over Turner Elson and Red Deer.

Sven Baertschi finally scores a goal (and another) and adds two assists (4 points) vs Prince Albert.

I think I saw Portland was shut out by TriCities last night. How has Sven looked so far this year?

He had lots of chances last night, rung one off the bar, and one close one off the side of the net. He sounds good out there, but he seems to take a lot of stick penalties.

Speaking of Howse and Ferland, who has the better chance of making the NHL (and having success there)? Of course on the surface, and maybe beneath it, I'd say Howse because he appears to be the more skilled player, but Howse seems to be more one-dimensional, while Ferland may bring other things to the table. Ferland can maybe be an effective player even if he doesn't score.

If Howse can get his conditioning down pat, he could very well become a top line winger in the NHL, however he's a real boom and bust prospect. As such, I'd have to say the Ferland has a great chance of making the NHL and sticking, but Howse will make a bigger impact if he makes it.

I like Ferland more than Howse, he's able to fight and it looks like he can score but I remember at one time JD Watt led the WHL in scoring and he's now down in the ECHL.

uh that one time was like in November.

abbotsfordheat Abbotsford Heat

The Heat have signed F - Krys Kolanos to a PTO (Professional Try-out). Kolanos - who has played 136 games in the NHL - will wear #8.
