Elway was quite adamant that Gase was not in consideration for the job, neither is old man Shanny. It’ll be a safe hire I’m sure, Fox 2.0

I see they have requested to interview Fangio.
Eric Bienemy? Hasn't been an OC for very long but has coached in the league a long time. CU connection. Probably too soon for him

Way too much drama in that locker room. As good as Brown is I don't know how you can bring him back next season and hope that he becomes a better teammate. He was already being a bit of a baby about Smith-Schuster seeing a lot of balls and it's hard to imagine that situation is going to get better.

cant recall who it was but i was watching an NFL show and they were saying the Colts might be the next dynasty, lots of improvement this year plus tons of upcoming draft picks led by a GM who seems to be much more competent than prior GM Grigson. have to say they are much better than i thought, Mcdaniels is likely kicking himself for passing on the HC job

Could be, but still likely a wildcard team even after regression. Dont forget the Bears own the Raiders' 2nd round pick, which will likely be around 5-10, a 10-15 spot move down.
At the end of the day, this is going to forever be remembered as one of the worst trades in the modern day NFL

I think so too, but I actually think hiring Mayock is a good decision. Grudens draft record is pretty ugly, I certainly wouldn't want to trust him with all those 1st round picks if I were the Raiders ... so bringing in a draft specialist as GM makes sense. I doubt he'll have a whole lot of responsibilities beyond that, it'll still be Chucky running the show - but just for the draft insight it might be a good move.

Mayock's track record with prospect evaluation is middling (reminder JaMarcus was his highest ever rated prospect). Gruden's track record at drafting is poor at best. This seems like it has disaster written all over it. The fact they gave Gruden carte blanche to run the organization was always the major warning sign though. His contract makes him close to unfireable until at least year five, but I can only imagine the damage Gruden will inflict in five years.

I was surprised to see Brian Orakpo retire. Only 32 years old and 4 pro bowls in 10 years. Wanted to walk away from the game on his terms with a healthy body and healthy mind. Good on him for being able to do that.

That's not true as you have a knack for bending the truth to suit your narrative. Mayock's evaluation was 100% spot on at the end of the day;
Quote:
"This year, I can't get over how good and talented JaMarcus Russell is. It just blew me away. If I had the first, second, third, fourth, fifth pick in that draft, I would be tearing apart his personal life trying to figure out whether or not I could trust this kid with $10-million ... From a physical skill set perspective, I've never seen a college quarterback with more ability than Russell. You put the tape on and it's frightening. The only thing that's going to keep [Russell] from being great is him. What it comes down to is you've got to figure out whether or not this kid wants to be the best quarterback in football. If he wants to be the best quarterback in football, he can be." -- NFL Network's Mike Mayock
|
By many accounts Russell had one of the best pro days ever but there were questions about if he loved the game and Mayock was weary of that.

I don't think the biggest joke because he will probably get the team into a few winning seasons but it's going to be looked at as a colassal waste of money for Davis as you could have hired a lot of coaches on the cheap to deliver middling football. That said it's really going to boil down to how things fare in Las Vegas as everything done has been with an eye on 2020.

Gil Brandt said something along the lines of it was the best pro day he had ever seen. But he still wouldn't draft him.
Finding talent is one thing. Figuring out how motivated players will be once they get money is where these guys differentiate themselves. We will see how Mayock does at this aspect. I'm sure he's aware of this.
I'm a bit diappointed they didn't hire Mel Kiper Jr... that would have been must see TV.

I don't think that's a deterrent for any team interested in acquiring him as the dead money declines incrementally to only $7 million in 2021. His cap hits of $22, $18.3, $19.5 million over the next three seasons however may be pretty hard to swallow for a lot of teams.

not what I was saying the Steelers would be hit with $21.1m in dead money if they trade him. His cap hit this year is $22.2m or something like that, so trading arguably the best WR in the game would get them close to nothing in terms of cap. Trading him makes zero sense.
so tired of all the drama. Tomlin has enabled that kind of BS for years, now he reaps what he sowed. Jesse James yesterday said "we're like the Kardashians" ... sad but true.
