Tampa committed to a proper rebuild and drafted Stamkos and Hedman top-2 in consecutive years. Calgary has never, ever picked that high.

Did they commit to a rebuild or did they just have the absolute worst owners in the league for a couple of years who just ran the team into the ground?
They were so bad that even Jay Feaster said he couldn't keep working for those idiots.

That's true — Koules and Barrie were pretty darn bad. But at a certain point, what's the difference?
They bottomed out. They had access to the top talent available in consecutive drafts. They got their 1C and their 1D.

In the last few minutes when Tyler Johnson outskated a desperate Islanders team.. Name one player on the Flames who would be doing that? Or the way Tampa was blocking at the end.. maybe Tanev?
Odds are this Flames team would have allowed a tying goal, then hit a few posts in overtime before losing.
The Flames have so much work to do. It starts with getting guys who want to win and hate to lose.

I use to play mens league with Barrie when he was the owner. He was an interesting guy ... wont say to much but ya.... then the whole bear mountian/over pass scandals stuff.

the funny thing is, that they really haven't...
They were actually worse than Calgary for a number of years, getting guys like Stamkos (1 OA), Hedman (2 OA) and Drouin (3 OA, and I know he sucked, but he turned into Sergachev who is pretty good).
Not to mentioned killer picks, with guys like Johnson, Kucherov, Vasilevskiy, Point, Palat, Killorn, Cirelli...
Even if you ignore the top 3 picks, something Calgary had not done in its history (Calgary, not ATL), TB's other picks are better than Calgary's drafting
