So far in the Chauvin trial, all the defense has managed to prove is that Floyd previously had a gun pulled on him during a traffic stop. Not really sure what they're getting at.. trying to prove history of drug use, but that doesn't add up with the autopsy after the incident in May

Sure, no argument here.
There have been many of case of injustices throughout history....for people of all types. Certainly moreso for minorities and the less fortunate. But what everyone (i would think) would like to see out of all this is justice for all...everyone...no one left behind type thing.
Now how does firing the city manager for even suggesting due process (justice which all should receive)...help anyone?
Like...what does it accomplish? It feels like straight up blood-lust.
Honest question because i have been trying to wrap my head around this since reading it and all I ever get back too is that is going to have a completely opposite effect of what the actual goal was/is/should be.

I think it is very common to try and smear the victim in these trials. If you can convince the jury he was a bad man and it's no great loss to the community, I think it becomes much easier to sway the jury. Standard cop trail tactic.

It's such a weird case so far though. For instance, the police chief is the prosecution's witness and the medical examiner is the defense's witness. It's usually the otherway.

No, both were the prosecutions witnesses.

Ah. The prosecutor got ahead. I thought Dr. Baker was going to be the defense's witness.

Norm!

So I had heard that the defense was supposed to rest today, and then tomorrow would be a day off and then closings on Monday.
It'll be interesting to see how long the jury is out on this one.

Also, wasn't the defence's witness a medical examiner expert but did not actually perform the autopsy on Floyd? The prosecution's witness was the actual medical examiner who performed the autopsy.

I am not sure I follow. Did he take the stand as a witness?

Invoking the 5th means to remain silent in trial. Solid move on his part! Guy would get torched in cross examination

Totally agree that he shouldn't give testimony, but I didn't think that involved "invoking the 5th". I thought that would be for someone on the stand refusing to answer specific questions.

I'll leave the details to troutman, but long and the short is he ain't talking! He now has the right to make a statement after the jury comes out with their decision.

I believe the right to remain silent is under the 5th amendment. If you do not invoke that right and are called to the stand you can invoke the 5th on specific questions as your right is to not say anything that would incriminate you.

I'm not looking forward to what is going to happen in Chicago now. A cop killed a 13 year old boy. They released videos of it today, I watched the body cam video of the shooting cop, it is very disturbing, I wish I didn't watch it now. Cop chases boy running down an alley, catches up and yells at him to put his hands up, as soon as he does the cop shoots him in the chest. I know it was night time, but watching the video even I could tell the kid had nothing in his hands. I'd be shocked if there aren't major riots in that city, as soon as tonight. This stuff needs to stop.

He had the gun initially and tossed it before the cop got to him.
