Question transfer video from vhs to cd

I have many VHS tapes that I would like to transfer to some sort of video format onto CD. Actually, I don't want to do it because I'm sure I don't have the necessary equipment, but does anybody know of a place that does this sort of thing?

Thanks CP

Why do you specifically want it on CD? Wouldn't DVD be a better option?

Yes, there are places that will do it for you for $25-40 per tape. Or you can spend $150-200 and buy yourself a DVD recorder. They work pretty much like a VCR, so no messing with codecs, video settings, framerate, etc. Only thing is you usually need to finalize the disc at the end.

Thanks - I will definitely look into one of those recorders. So basically, I just pop in the vhs tape, hit play and record it to the DVD recorder?

Stopwatch Transfers - 252-2247

They do what you're looking for.

Pretty much. Connect the two units using RCA cables, and also set the "tape speed" on the DVD recorder. I would try to keep it around 2 hours per disc; and never go over 4 hours per disc or else you really lose quality.

Also buy proper black cases for your DVDs, as with any recordable media light is your biggest enemy. Also don't buy cheap discs- good rule of thumb is stick with brand names. You can usually get a 50 pack for less than $20.

There are DVD recorder and VHS combos for those that want it even more simplified. Harder to find though.
