Then why do we continue to see posts from people on this forum pretending like this is new information?

Answer he wouldn't unless he was hired as the GM of the Oilers.

TM still has 2 years on his contract @3M per year. I can't see them eating that and paying Sutter on top of that. Plus I would imagine that GG is probably paid more than a typical assistant coach. You have to remember that Eakins signed a 4 year deal so they just finished paying that off last year.

If there was a salary cap for coaches, they would be in deep there as well.

One of my fondest (recent) memories as a Flames fan was a couple years ago when the Flames beat LA at home to clinch a playoff spot (after six years?). I was on a boys trip in Vegas and watched from there.

Darryl said after the game he was happy for the Flames and would be cheering for them in the playoffs.

I think its more continuing disappointment than surprise, particularly after a highly regarded coach expresses that he would have been interested in the job.

I wouldn't let it bother you. We get to find out if Treliving made a good hire this time soon enough.

I'm just surprised that he would have interest in coming to Calgary still. I know there were obviously some hurt feelings when he left. Didn't King and Sutter partner in a business venture when he was here? Maybe the feelings aren't as hurt as we thought I guess.

Hopefully, Peters turns out to be a better coach than a mentally checked out Darryl Sutter

All of the legwork, analysis, and interviews that were done in 2016... were done in 2016, on the coaches that were available in 2016. If the coaching market was the same in 2018 as it was in 2016, then of course, it wouldn't be overly important to interview all of the same coaches again, and perform all of the same analysis again. But the options are not the same, not even close... Sutter, Vigneault, Trotz, etc were not available 2 years ago, and so not performing the analysis and interviews with these 3 who are available today is absolutely close-minded.
Interviews sure, but I think you are assuming they only developed books on coaches available at the time in 2016. Personally, I think they developed a book on everyone including all 2016 AHL and NHL coaches and also on all available coaches. I would be absolutely shocked to find out they didn't know exactly what Sutter, AV, Trotz or even Peters would bring the Flames as coaches.

Whether they got the hire right is one thing and definitely debatable, but to imply they just passed over Sutter and AV without thinking about it is short sighted IMO. You can fault Treliving for some things but being thorough is not one of them.

As I recall, a lot of people were saying that at the start of his time in L.A.

Thank you Darryl. The 2004 run will always be my favorite moment as a Flames fan. Still burns to this date. His work as a GM was so bad but loved how he coached and glad he got a couple cups in LA.

Wow an executive that is running a flagging organization, realizes he is now being questioned, and goes out to grab what he considers “the man for the job”.

Hate to break it but this happens everyday in every industry. Treliving has hitched his wagon to his guy and will go down with him. Good for him, that is a leadership move.

On Sutter, what a man. Love the guy as a human being. The way he supports his family and loves them gets missed far too much. He’s a quality human being and I look forward to him smiling at the HOF. One of the good ones.
