Glad to hear someone else is jumping on the anime. I wish I could say the production value was better. There are scenes which seem to be getting hurt by the tight animation schedules.

Just some things I think are worth noting:

- The current opening animation is a placeholder and will be replaced starting in episode 4 (most of the art used in it is from previous material released in relation to the game). I assume because the opening animation has some fairly spoiler heavy material in it.

- Things will probably be a bit confusing until episode 5-6. The last time they tried to adapt a Persona game into the television environment, they had the same issue until the first "boss" is defeated.

- The series will likely follow the same pattern as Persona 4's anime: you'll have plot heavy episodes (like the last one) and lighter episodes where they follow the game's "confidants"...basically, they'll have Ren bond with people around him.

I'm saying the same right now about Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood. The great pacing of the show (at least 40 episodes in) is really apparent because we're also watching Dragon Ball Super at the same time.

Alright, this is one a bit out there but it was recommended to me and caught me by surprise - Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai. The name is stupid but the show is actually decent. The main characters talk in a more realistic manner to each other (not the usual over the top style of anime) and it's a rare anime that actually treats romance as a real thing instead the usual dancing around the subject (and that's usually until the last 30 seconds of the final episode in your typical show). It has some interesting supernatural elements to it as well. I have some issues with the show but overall it's been a pleasant surprise.

Looking for Recommendations. I tend towards series with really robust universe building, in the last decade I've only really liked Hunter X Hunter, Deathnote, One Punch Man & Attack on Titan (in descending order). I've tried Fullmetal Alchemist and One Piece, but couldn't get over the hump. Will also take Manga recommendations.

I remember Log Horizon having almost too much world building. It was a pretty intense level of detail. Maybe check that one out? Off the top of my head I can't think of much else.

33 dead after arson attack at Kyoto Animation studio, dozens injured

Quote:
An arson attack at a Kyoto Animation studio on the morning of July 18 has left 33 people dead, police and firefighters said, making it the worst such attack in Japan in decades.

A man allegedly entered the No. 1 studio of the Kyoto Animation building in Fushimi Ward in the western Japan city of Kyoto at around 10:30 a.m., poured what appeared to be gasoline around while screaming, "Go die," and set fire to it. The man was injured and admitted to a hospital.

This is the studio behind Clannad, Violet Evergarden, A Silent Voice, among others.

I kind of gave up on that show around episode 10, does it get better? It seems like it should stick with me but not sure why I'm not liking it.

Fire Force is one I really like from this season.

GRANBELM had a great feel to it, not sure what they do with their animation but it has a very distinct style to it, but I'm also losing interest in that.

Same with Dr. STONE, cool premise I guess but not really into it.

If It's for My Daughter, I'd Even Defeat a Demon Lord is almost TOO wholesome and cute.

The lost in space one from Funimation seems ok so far.

But my favorite so far is Carole and Tuesday, which I hate watching on sketchy sites, cmon Netflix! The songs are on Spotify too which is cool.

Episode 19 was trending in NA on Twitter. It does get better. I would say episode 13 is where it really picks up.

I finished season 3 of Attack on Titan and it's been a really rewarding watch.

I can't recall any anime series that has maintained this kind of quality through as many episodes. The coherence and consistency from episode 1 through to the end in terms of story building seems to be unparalleled in entertainment these days. It really makes you appreciate writers who have developed a complete story plan before publishing their work.

There's still another season left, but I'd say it's now firmly my favorite anime series ever.

Shōnen isn't my favorite genre but My Hero Academia is making a case for being one of the best examples of it. Outstanding.

Using this kind of music in the middle of an episode doesn't hurt.

manga-creator-discusses-mangas-freedom-of-expression-with-japanese-government

"This month, I was invited to participate in a House of Councillors witness questioning session, but instead, a member of the DIET [Japanese government] asked me, 'What measures are needed for Japanese manga need to survive in the world?' I replied, "First and foremost, freedom of expression. Compared to other countries, Japan's forte is its freedom of creativity. However, with foreign platforms becoming more and more dominant, I would like to avoid a situation where Japanese works are regulated by foreign standards.'"
