Does having him in the minors help out player development?
Somebody with 279 NHL games playing in the minors better be like a playing coach helping the prospects make the jump to the show.

Its the Oilers. When was the last time they developed a player?

I would have thought with Fayne finally coming off their cap that Gryba would take his role in the minors. Albeit at 1/4 the price. Would have been an upgrade.

Probably this. Cap Friendly has them listed with 39 players under contract for next season with 6 unsigned RFAs. Assuming they re-sign their RFAs, that puts them at 45 contracts and July 1 is still a week and a half away.

I think its a chance for him to find a spot elsewhere as he would probably spend the year in the minors if not.

If he can't make the Oilers he's not making an NHL roster anywhere else.
