It wouldn't be a thread in the off-topic forum without Psycnet letting everybody know how much better he is than everyone.

I mean, he was pointing out that the winner is not a man, which is true, so...

Always fun when an obvious correction of casual ignorance is met with “So, you think you’re better than me??”

I am not being ignorant here - people are just looking to be offended (likely on behalf of others).

This person is now a woman. Check, got it. I don't refute that. But do note that the woman was once a biological man.

In the media today, we hear constantly about the wage gap. We know of the physical divide between men and women in sport. I tried to make the joke (sarcastically) in a sense than men are becoming better at being women than women. Obviously that is hyperbole.

So please tell me where people are getting offended.

For the sake of getting offended.

I don’t think people are getting offended, just pointing out the fact that the joke was just kind of ugly for the reason stated. But whatever, you’re right, it’s a joke and should be taken as such.

We could have a whole conversation on how quick people are to complain about those “easily offended” whenever someone points out something they said being a little offside.

The nice problem with sarcasm on sensitive subjects, is you always get a few people who don’t get it and suddenly come out with their bits of ugliness, feeling a little bit emboldens because somebody said it first. You didn’t call her a man in earnest, but you definitely made a couple posters more comfortable to do so.

Also the acceptability of a risque or off-color joke is directly proportionate to how funny it is.

No, really, tell me how it offends. I refuse to sit here and let CP's social justice brigade degrade another member.

If somebody refers to themselves as transgender, it implies that they were a man or a woman and they no longer are. All my joke did was imply that this person was a man at one point in life. All facts. This is equivalent to a transgender person being offended for being called transgender.

It's no surprise that you two don't find that joke funny, but not everyone has to find a joke funny for it to be one.

You should probably re-enroll in elementary school if you need someone here to explain to you how to properly use tense in a sentence.

Haha this is so typical. Instead of refuting my argument or perhaps explaining your perspective, the response is essentially "lol ur an idiot. look at this bigot. if u dont understand u never will" which only widens the divide between our two perspectives.

I am willing to listen and discuss when many others may be completely unwilling.

I really didn’t see this argument going this far, but you are implying that she is currently a man. Former man, biological born man, etc, would have been more accurate. And no I wasn’t offended.

A lot of trans people (most? all?) reject the idea that they used to be a different gender. A different sex, maybe, but not gender. So they don't like it when someone says they used to be a man/woman, and I respect that.

It's a little confusing because "trans" can mean change, so I can don't think everyone who misgenders them is necessarily intolerant. But there definitely is way too much intolerance out there.

Not to distract from you being the great defender of CP, but you said “men are beating women at beauty pageants” which actually implies the transgender person IS a man, not that they WERE a man.

Not to “further entrench” you, but yeah, this sort of distinction in language is learned pretty early on.

I thought it was obvious I meant biological man but I guess not

Obviously I know the difference in tenses so I appreciate the dig trying to create further arguments though.

Isn't saying transgendered women just as offensive?

A purely tolerant society would just say a women won a beauty contest as her gender has always been female.

So the joke was no more offensive than the article
