BC Family Friendly hotel/motel
I'm taking the kids and the wife out to BC this summer, we're going to go the way of Fernie/Cranbrook. I remember last year I wound up staying at a pretty divey motel with the kids (they still loved it god bless em) but on the way home I saw a way , way nicer road side motel. I can't seem to find it online anywhere, likely because it's a smaller family run one. I think it was way outside Cranbrook too.
Anyone have any suggestions for something that's a little further out of town, close to lakes, and has nice outdoor area for kids to run around in?

East or West of Cranbrook ?
I drove that route last friday and the only one I can think of is the Stanford Resort in Fernie...
Fairly new...close to the highway...etc...

Theres a relatively new/small cluster of townhomes just west of Fernie (minutes out of town) on the side of the highway by the river, I believe they have a decent hotel with a waterslide there and there may even be a couple stores there too now

I remember staying at the Cranbrook Sandman many years ago when they had a Yuk Yuks. The feature comic went a little too far with a table of bikers sitting at the very front. They literally threatened his life if he didn’t get off the stage immediately.

We actually really like the Fernie Stanford Resort. Priced well, has a restaurant on site, and has a pool/waterslide too.

Well that doesn't sound like Cranbrook at all...

People actually choose to stay the night in Cranbrook? I always thought of it as a place to fill up your car and grab lunch before quickly getting the hell out of town.

Don't rule out the Sutton in Halifax either. There's lots of information about the Halifax airport in the Calgary International Airport thread if you need some travel hints or stats about airports that are not YYC.

I have a soft spot for Fernie and the Pass. It's not really about Cranbrook. That place is a #### hole.

I didn’t say the OP should stay there. Just something to consider for other people travelling to BC this summer.
Lighten up Mr. Helper.

I am pretty light. I amused myself with my reply, which lightened the mood even further. I usually find it funny when someone makes a thread with a specific question and the answers are for a completely different question. People then carry on with that discussion and the OP never gets his/her question answered. I'm not sure you should treat my reply so seriously, yourself.
If it was a general BC thread, Revelstoke and Ainsworth make sense. Here, the OP asked for hotels on the east side of Cranbrook and he gets replies of 400 kms north of Cranbrook and a spot that's another 200 kms past Cranbrook by going southwest and then north. It's a windy drive and you have to hope the Balfour Ferry isn't having one of it's famous 10-24 hour lineups to get to Ainsworth. I've been to Ainsworth many times. It is not worth that drive.
OP might be looking at the Fernie Stanford or the Lizard Creek, but both are Fernie. There aren't a lot of places between Cranbrook and Fernie. It might be a small Air BnB type thing, but there aren't a lot of places between Cranbrook and Fernie. He might look at Fort Steele, which is on the east of Cranbrook and has some decent places for a small town. I don't think this is the one he would have driven by, as it's slightly out of the way.

The OP said they wanted to be East of Cranbrook.
I'd suggest something in the Fernie area, especially if your family enjoys outdoor activities, it's gorgeous there.

Oh yeah for sure.
This got me thinking, what is the ####tiest place in BC? Other than Cranbrook other nominees would be Trail, Kamloops, and Prince George. Where am I missing?

Prince George wins in a landslide.
