Ten years ago the NFL averaged 11.8 penalties for 97.3 yards per game. Five years ago the averages were 13.2 penalties for 111.1 yards. This season NFL games average 14.9 penalties for 124.5 yards. The more the flags, the worse the game.

To be fair a lot of experienced referees retired in the past five years and there are a lot of officials that have been fast tracked as they are hiring officials with less than 10 years experience. A lot of blame has to go to the NFL for cheaping out in their bargaining with the officials union as they suspended their full time officiating program which hasn't helped the situation. Good article here sums up why the NFL needs to stop cutting corners;

https://www.reviewjournal.com/sports...cials-1873033/

I never understood how a league that makes billions in annual revenues would cheap out with something as important to their product as officiating. IMO they should be investing as much money as possible into officiating because better officiating makes for better games.

Yeah, I expect mediocre officiating in the CFL. But it's unacceptable in the NFL.

More money in TV analyst for officiating....every game has one now.

Way less travel for most of them too as they work out of the studio in New York or LA.

Very happy with the team this year

OLine has reestablished itself as a top 5 unit in the league again, and that's without ever having our best 5 guys play in the same game

Jacob's looks like a stud, waller is already a top 5 pass catching TE, and the TE depth behind him is strong

Defense is super young and making strides, romo called maxx crosby a future pro bowler yesterday. Only real dissapointment so far is ferril but it's still early and hes had concussion issues.

Offense got screwed by AB, if he wasnt traded for they would have gotten another receiver either early in the draft or in FA.

Like you said through one of the worst schedules in recent history they have been very competitive, even yesterday's game was way closer than the score. That idiotic carr touchback was a 14 point swing by half time, and because of the lack of depth at WR they arent built to play from behind.

Draft is super heavy at WR next year, I'd love anyone of Jeudy, ruggs, Higgins, lamb or later in round 2 guys like shenault jr or Pittman

Only position group outside WR that badly needs upgrades is the LB

Who knows how high trubisky can push that bears pick too!!!!!

Top 10 maybe?!?! That division is stacked and they still have away games at all 3, plus the rams, cowboys, chiefs, and eagles left. Tough schedule

It seems like we have been waiting forever for the Raiders to address the LB group. I think (at least I hope) this offseason it will finally happen. I would imagine they take a WR early (because Gruden loves his toys) but the rest of the draft should be focussed on the defensive side of the ball.

speaking of the Raiders, they have traded Gareon Conley to Houston for a 3rd round pick.

Might want to look at the 2019 schedule and not the 2017 one.

I thought it would have been the Eagles that traded for him seeing they were supposedly one of the teams interested with him at that draft and they need help at the position. He might do better there under a better defensive coordinator in Crennel. Guenther is a square peg in round hole type of coach that tries to make players adapt to his scheme rather than put players in position to play to their strengths.

I know you are down on your team but surely the Eagles defense can stop MVP Mitch.

I still don't think the Mack trade in the abstract is a bad trade, and the Bears would have won it easily if they made the right rationalization for doing it. But that rationalization was the Trubisky was good enough to go all in on trading for guys or signing guys while he was on his rookie deal. Seemed extremely risky at the time and now has disaster potential. Given that they are staring at trading a top 10 pick I cannot imagine he has much rope left.

Nagy definitely deserves some heat for the play calling, but it's also abundantly clear from the play calling he doesn't trust Trubisky to do anything but dump it off. And as we see every time Trubisky overthrows a guy at the second level by like 10 yards, he's very much right there. Another tragic waste of a great defense with below average QB play.

I misread and thought he was referring to the Raiders ROS. And our sieve secondary is going to make Mitch look like a Pro Bowler.

That will be the true test, I kinda think he airmails too many balls to take advantage of a bad secondary

Unfortunately we are always going to see Jets and Giants on primetime because of the market but it does make for bad TV. Patriots don't need to apologize for their schedule but having multiple perennial bad teams in your division must be nice. Who would have thought Lamar Jackson would be by far the best looking QB out of the 2018 draft? Darnold stinks.

The Cowboys lost to this Jets team somehow. Man we can talk about how crap reffing is ruining the league, and it sucks, but there has never been this many absolute dog#### teams as there is right now. So many teams are just unwatchable.
