Vince is swooping in to sign him to a dual WWE/XFL deal.

This. As much as the default option for once good, now not good enough players to go somewhere was the AAF or XFl, this makes a lot more sense.

Gives the new league some juice, and no NFL team will touch him at least for a year after this last few weeks, hell, this last 24h after he cried to teammates in an apology but then had 2 more incidents before being released...so he will have nowhere to go. He got paid $0 of his $54m he undoubtedly budgeted for months ago. Not that he’s likely suffering, but my guess is he has spent some of his anticipated $14m in this years guaranteed money, already.

Vince can sign him to a personal services contract for the large pot of money Brown will demand, where he works for Vince directly, and then gets placed on a team.
And then if he doesn’t want to play football to earn his $, Vince can demand he go into WWE storylines and job.

And while this has been going on, the Falcons are closing in on a massive extension for Julio Jones. They’re probably more than happy to pay the man after seeing this drama unfold. I guess good things happen when you shut up, play football, and let your performance speak for itself.

The Raiders are the Edmonton Oilers of the NFL. Jesus Christ, what a dumpster fire.

Some of the same people that criticized them for letting him off the hook will be critical of them releasing him

They gave him one more chance...he failed again sadly. Cut your losses and save 30M. There will be players lining up to play in Vegas.

I guess, but WR is tough to pay for team performance.

Seen on Reddit, the last 25 Super Bowl winners, only 2 had WR that made more then 9% of the teams salary cap. D. Thomas in 2016 for Denver and Sidney Rice for Seattle in 2014 (and Rice blew his knee out in October and never played down the stretch or in the SB (or ever again)).

Now, Jones is one of the few others in that time period with that same cap percentage hit, that at least made it to the SB. And relatively speaking, he’s put up consistent stats year over year, so in the WR market, to comparables, he is worth it. But it takes a lot of flexibility out for the team cap space.

Sounds now like he’s making a record aav $22m a year for 3 years, with a recording breaking $64 of that $66 guaranteed at signing. Yikes.

As crazy as AB seems I’m not sure I really trust Mayock or Gruden (or any owners / management in the NFL for that matter).

Also seems crazy to think that in NFL contracts you can just “take away” $30M of guaranteed money for conduct detrimental to the team before a player even misses a regular season game.
Well he skipped most of training camp and asked to be released after threatening the GM. You think they should have to pay him for that?

Nobody would go to camp or pre season if you could just skip it and collect your money

Great breakdown.

I don’t really have a horse in the race. I just found it interesting that 2 receivers at the top of their game, are going about their business very differently, with very different results.

I'm pleasantly surprised how well the Raiders handled this. They gave him chances but ultimately didn't put him ahead of the team. They also didn't get petty and draw things out as they could have easily let him rot for half the season or more. Anyone comparing the Raiders to the Oilers obviously haven't paid attention to how the Oilers have handled issues like this. It was a swing and a miss but they moved on very quickly.

So much for that XFL idea.

Have to give Tomlin credit for getting a few years production out of this guy.

Steelers would have never traded him to the Patriots. This was really the only way they could get their hands on him.
