wranglers Adam Ollas Mattsson signs a 2 year deal with the Malmo Redhawks

per this report from Sweden, former Flames draft pick AOM is close to signing with the Malmo Redhawks of the SHL. He was visiting the team yesterday.
https://www.expressen.se/kvallsposte...almo-redhawks/

The Flames lost their exclusive rights to AOM in June 2018 by not signing him to a NHL contract. He however came back on an AHL deal to play with Stockton where he played very well. Well enough that there was speculation he earned a NHL contract, but it looks like he is going back to Sweden instead.

If true he will play for Rasmus Andersson's father who is the head coach and play with recent Flames signee Carl-Johan Lerby

Ollas Mattsson has more than likely gone home for good. He gave North America his best shot.

Didn't even realize we lost his NHL rights since he played the full season in Stockton. Thought he might be a player thanks to his size. We've been so spoiled by Andersson, Kylington and Valimaki making the jump but our defensive prospect pipeline is a little thin beyond that.

Going to be a big hit to Stockton if true.

Was thier best shutdown defender and took huge steps this year. Could probably make more money in Sweden though so I don't blame him.

Best of luck to him whatever the choice he makes.

Looked like he had a pretty good AHL year, was it one of those cases like Wotherspoon where they are AHL studs but lacking what it takes to make it in the NHL? Seemed like he wanted to give it a try by coming over at a young age and taking the AHL contract, but the recent signings probably showed him the writing on the wall.

Also with Ollas Mattsson there are family considerations. He lost his mother to cancer as a teenager and his father was (I believe) raising a disabled child as well. So there was a certain amount of family sacrifice pursuing the NHL dream. If it wasn't happening, I can see why he wants to go home.

More money, nicer place, less travel. Home.

Malmö is probably one of the immigrant heaviest cities in Sweden, also probably with the highest crime rate, I'm saying probably because I don't have any facts to show you and don't have the time to take them up, but it's far from awesome.

Umm make Sweden great again...?

Another note: it is across the bridge from Copenhagen. I’d imagine you could live there?

Two of the best things Malmo has going for it is the Orsesund bridge and its proximity to Copenhagen, one of the most incredible cities in the world in my highly biased opinion.

Stockton went bankrupt and is essentially the 'Edmonton or Detroit' of California.

Sure, its in California but 'being on the Highway' is about the highest praise anyone can really give it.

Have you ever been to Rural California? Its like Hell only with more stripmalls.

Haha, I have not, well, I do understand that if Malmö is a paradise compared to Stockton, it has to be a hell hole

Hope Treliving at least offered him a two-way deal. Think he earned one. Disappointing if this is the last we see of AOM in the org.

I've been to Malmo a bunch of times. The fact it's a 40 min bus ride away from Copenhagen is pretty sweet. It's a cute little tourist town to walk in. I've heard about it being the rape capital of Europe, high crime, etc, but I've never seen it myself. Probably has that reputation from people who have never visited and simply absorb whatever anti-immigrant news they can find. I can think of plenty other places that I'd feel less safe in then Malmo, including some places within Copenhagen.

A shame about AOM, but good on him for doing what's right for himself. I thought he had decent potential when he was drafted.

Never been to Malmo itself, but if it's that close to Copenhagen it's gotta be awesome

This is sad news. Was really hoping he'd pan out with us, after a more-than-stellar season.
