If he isn't playing he doesn't have to wait to announce it.

I believe Sweden hasn't registered all their roster spots for their tournament and Nygard was only going to be registered if Landeskog couldn't make the tournament.
The reports are Landeskog is already in Bratislava, so unlikely Nygard will get to play.

Boy. Did Bennett and Granlund show him!

And Hudler - he was traded at the deadline that same year, no? As was Granlund of course.

Yeah those are fairly impressive swedish league stats. If he has nitro boost on his skates too then I'm all for it.

Has he told the team he has chosen that he has chosen them or is he keeping it a surprise? If not, maybe he is using this as a tactic to get one of the others to see who really wants him the most.

Are they? Using an NHLe calculator, he would have had 31 points in the NHL last season. As a 26-yr old who is unlikely to improve, and who was probably in a top 6 role where he wouldn't be in Calgary...this seems like another Cervenka, Wolf, etc. signing.
I try not to get my hopes up for older Euro prospects based on past experience. I hope they prove me wrong though!

I feel Janko plays every shift like he's killing a penalty. He plays like he's afraid to make a mistake and it causes him to be really passive.

Not every player has to be a top 6 guy to be useful. Matt Nieto had a big impact against the Flames this playoffs and he’s probably what Nygard would be. Flames are a slow team, any way they can improve the team speed should be beneficial.

Cervenka was a useful middle-6 player in the NHL, who scored at a decent rate despite coming in under difficult circumstances.
David Wolf led his AHL team in goals.
I'm not sure what your expectations are, but if your euro UFA signings are taking a regular shift in the NHL, or are a game-changing player in your farm system and a viable call-up, then I consider that a success. That's like a free good draft pick.
I'll take those signings every time.

Cervenka wasn't going to be game breaker, but there was some promise there. The guy had 9 goals in 39 games, all while missing training camp and dealing with condition issues due to his blood-clot. His numbers translated to a pretty decent 18-19 goals per season.
I wish him and the Flames gave it one more year to see how it went.

He doesn't seem to be a very confident player out there, which is surprising because he is a confident person when you meet him.

Perhaps I'm mis-remembering, but wasn't it Cervenka who didn't want to come back? I recall reading a quote he gave back home in Czech after the season which was something along the lines of: ..we had lots of injuries, then everybody got traded, and we missed the playoffs.
I got the impression he really didn't enjoy his time on this side of the pond. But agreed I would have loved to see him at least one more year here. Him and Hudler looked explosive together to start the season.
