Small sample size, too early to say he's on the decline

The idea that Monahan needs Gaudreau for offense is just silly. Gaudreau's assists go down if Monahan isn't finding open ice with his elite snapper.

Pretty common sense that players should play their off-wing on the powerplay...but common sense isnt really common within the CGY coaching staff...its becoming pretty clear.

--------------Jagr---------------

Versteeg-Monahan-Gaudreau

------------Brodie----------------

This is how they should line up on the powerplay......but they don't.

If you watch the WSH powerplay, Backstrom directs the entire show from the half-wall. It's artistry at it's finest.

If you watch the Tampa powerplay......same thing.

Give the puck to Gaudreau on the half-boards on his off-wing and let him do his thing....

Yeah, we don't have players the caliber that WSH/TB have but that doesn't mean our structure can't be the same.

Gaudreau can't protect the puck as easily on his off-wing. On left side he can use his body to protect more easily. This is also important as a regular carrier of the puck on the PP. And he does just fine as a distributor from where he is.

It also forces the defender down lower to take away the passing/shooting lanes, leaving 6 feet or so more room at the point to work the play. If defenders cheat to the point it opens up passing/shooting lanes.

Unless we have an ovetchkin/stamkos/laine type shot set up on the off wing, playing an elite playmaker on his own wing as the “QB” make a more dynamic power play for us.

To me this just sounds like you're trying to find a solution to something that's not even a problem. The powerplay has been working and is chugging along just fine. They had multiple grade A looks in the Minnesota game (credit to Stalock for coming up big).

The powerplay is working and Johnny is ripping it up to a tune of 1.375 points per game. The point of the powerplay is to score goals, not for Johnny to score goals. Why take the time to implement an entirely new system when ours is working?

^ exactly.
Over last 80ish games, Flames PP is top 5 in the league, or close.

Glad he has taken some shots this game and scored one so far. Need more of that and some finish from bottom six.

If he kept up this torrid pace Johnny would net 41 goals this season lmao.

Why do people bump stuff like this.

Does it make you feel better ? This thread was created last year when Johnny scored less goals. He struggled immensely last year so a thread was created to talk about it

This year he is lights out and shooting more with a lot of confidence.

Ok so people were still living off of last year and had concerns. My point still stands the people who act smug saying things like

Oh I guess gully was right
Trade Monahan
Or bumping this thread

It's all tedious trying to act to superior to fellow fans who obviously voice concerns or have different opinions

Well, even if you had checked the creation date, why can't it be bumped? If we can discuss when he's not scoring, surely we can talk about when he is?

Voicing concern, or knee-jerk over reaction?
