It's always been like that, in every sport. It's just math. If you have the same number of points and have played less games, you have a better record. The very first tiebreaker is games played. Once the regular season is over that one won't matter, and then you go to ROWs. Right now Edmonton is in front of Calgary in the standings. If Edmonton loses tonight, Calgary will be in front. If Edmonton gets a win or a SOL, they will remain ahead. That's also just math.

Oiler fans and media are so delusional it is funny for us but embarrassing for them. That organization has had 9 top 10 picks in the last 10 drafts. The fanbase will tell you the rebuild started 8 years ago in the 09/10 season. Since that year the only season they didn't draft in the top 4 was the lockout shortened 2013 season.
Mark Spector talks about how the Flames were supposed to be ahead. The Flames started their rebuild 3 years after the Oilers and have only drafted top 10 3 times and look poised to make the playoffs for the 2nd time in their 4 year rebuild. Edmonton hasn't made it for 11 years and has finished bottom 3 for the 8 years before this season.
The Flames catch them in the standings despite a horrible start to the year yet this fanbase remains arrogant enough to say they are a far better team top to bottom.
I really hope they slide right out of the playoffs and LA takes their place
