I always loved seeing The Tea Party live. They emulate Led Zeppelin in their live shows: elaborating and experimenting with their songs, showing off their virtuosity with their instruments, creating a tidal wave of sound.
Psychopomp was one of my favourites live, starts as a whisper then builds into an avalanche of ROCK:
Winter Solstice + Winter Awake was generally the apex of every show, you don't get more classic Tea Party then Solstice + Awake. I went through the ordeal of learning this entire mess on guitar (Dsus2 tuning ftw!):
The Tea Party Rule and are my personal undisputed kings of 90s Canadian alt Rock.

Guess it wouldn't hurt to mention the gandharvas (coffee!), and age of electric. Age of electric didn't really stand out, but I had a girlfriend who loved them and their albums are actually solid all around

Lots of great ones mentioned, but a few omissions would be Grapes of Wrath, Pure, Doughboys, and one band that I think has stood up amazingly well over the years, Crash Vegas.
Did anybody used to watch Placebo? They would play the Black Lounge all the time. In case you didn't know, the lead singer is better known as Feist. Still have a Placebo CD I bought at one of their shows.
Chixdiggit were also always a good show.
And Heuvos Rancheros.
A-Team was great. Infernos were fun.

Ghandarvas is a weird one. They epitomize one hit wonder to me. 'The First Day of Spring' is such an outstanding song, and everything else they did was awful. More than I can say for any music I've ever made so I get that somewhere in there they had at least enough talent to make a deadly song. Their live show wasn't that great either (saw them at Republik), until that song of course. I think one of the dudes hung around playing pool after the show so they seemed alright.
Pure mentioned above were a bit forgettable as well. I remember talking to their keyboardist in front of Republik before their show once and apparently he was a classically trained pianist. He seemed a little disgruntled all he did in Pure was play a few chords over and over hah.

I saw Chixdiggit at the Mac hall (think they opened up for Eve 6 ?) they put on a solid performance!
Age of electric and limblifter! I still really like a lot of limblifter's stuff.

Downtime baby, downtime. Not awful. Well, catchy anyways. Like the mumps.

I still have a soft spot for Treble Charger. I remember being 17 at Mac Hall, they were playing at a club there, and we were 17, so we couldn't get in. Instead, we just watched them from the second level, and the singer looked up and gave us a shout out. I thought it was pretty neat. Favorite songs from them are probably Red and American Psycho.
