Gio is an amazing player but doesn't have the "it" factor that Johnny does. Very few players in the league have that extra dimension to their game where they are seemingly thinking at a higher level then everyone else on the ice.

Hard to compare forwards to D, but Gio's instincts on the ice are elite.
He's an incredibly smart player. I don't know if that's what you are referring to with "it" but winning the Norris is an incredibly rare thing.
In my view Gio is unquestionably the Flames best player.

I'm not weighing in on Johnny vs Gio because they're both favourites (I like everyone on the team - in the system) but Johnny takes a lot of crap by fans. I can't believe it at times.
He is, by far, the most dynamic player I have seen play for the Flames. More to the point his hockey IQ is just incredible. Opponents are obviously focused on shutting him down and they employ different ways to do this. Johnny has consistently shown he figures out - on the fly - how to adapt and play his game.
He's a passionate player and very competitive so you see him show frustration but he doesn't get flustered or more importantly he doesn't get shut down. I don't mean he doesn't go pointless but he is always, always able to find ways to generate chances. He can hold on to the puck and find ice.

“A lot of his goal are big goals; they turn games around,” said injured Flames defenseman and captain Mark Giordano.
“He’s got that game-breaker … a lot like that guy in Chicago. Patrick Kane scores big goals, and I feel like Johnny is in that same ballpark with him this year.”
Giordano sees plenty of Kane in Gaudreau, in terms of quickness and intelligence.
“The style, how dynamic he is with the puck, reminds me of Kane,” he said. “I know Patrick Kane, probably before he got hurt this year, was the best offensive player in the league, so it’s saying a lot.
“He [Gaudreau] sees the game two steps ahead of everyone else.”
Gaudreau has a rare ability you can't 'hard-work-into' or you can't train in the weight room to gain. He has a vision and anticipation that are utterly amazing and very few in the world posses.
His quickness and his hands are mind blowing. He's a relentless player who has just been able to play his game at every level - right off the bat.
He fits into a category of hockey player that I really appreciate. Their essence is smart, skilled, humble and competitive. To me all the greats fit that descriptor

Does anyone remember the hat trick against LAK in 2014-2015 season? Well in that game, IIRC, he had already tied the game but he went on this breakaway and was so close to actually winning it and scoring 4 goals!!?!! It was just a great move and that was a heated, heated game.
I know Gio scored the winner and it was an amazing goal by an amazing player (Gio is incredible!!) but that game was like Johnny flourishing in front of my eyes.
I wanna know Gaudreau's fans' thoughts on his last two playoff performances. Defend him and make me think otherwise.
Everyone else was bad too.
If you are a Flames fan and not a fan of Gaudreau, I don't think there's anything anyone here could say to you to make you change your mind. His strengths and weaknesses are pretty obvious and they aren't likely to change any time soon.

What is there to defend?
I like that you’re conveniently ignoring the playoffs he played in where he won a round and had 9 points in 11 games which is pretty respectable.
But you guys don’t care about that. You’ll dismiss it as “oh it was just the aging Canucks, anyone could beat them”, despite the fact that Vancouver was the higher seed that year.
You guys just want to bait people into arguments that are easy to win and pointless to have to try justify some ridiculous narrative you have about Gaudreau.
Edit: and to add to this, why are you even bashing our teams best forward in a PGT after a win where he was the guy that scored a beautiful goal to win it for us? Seriously? What’s with the negativity?

Why not? Can't we?
I'll admit that shootout goal was a beauty, but that doesn't mean every discussion about Gaudreau should be positive and all smiles. Can't please everyone man. Those playoff exits still leave me a bitter taste in my mouth. Just because my team won doesn't mean I can't criticize them. It happens. Some take wins lighty. Some approach it differently. Way life goes.
As for 2015, great, but to follow up with two dismal performances? I don't think that makes sense. It's rare for a superstar to regress that bad in the postseason. I'm surprised as to why that's happened. Maybe the rest of the league figured him out? Maybe he wasn't as motivated as he was in 2015? I don't know. All I know is that Gaudreau better steps up the next time he makes the playoffs because thrice ain't nice.
I kinda gave him a free pass in 2017, thinking it was just Anaheim owning us over and over. But 2019? Pattern emerging.
He better do something.

Nothing to worry about Gio. My only concern is about Gaudreau.
