That's way too much to take on that huge contract.

TLDR: Anton Forsberg @antonforsbeerg may be coming to the flames?

Cost would have to be minimal. Would also spell the end of the Chronicles of Rittich.

I doubt this makes sense from a cap perspective, and may result in us needing to dump someone from our core...but we would have an elite goalie for the next 5-6 years

Brutal trade for both teams. Doesn't make sense from a cap perspective, nor a hockey perspective. Montreal takes on two bad contracts and a very short term fix in net, to get a 1st and a big center with potential? Doesn't make sense for them.
One thing I wish people would stop trying to do is to trade away our future for short term gain. Has the past not taught us anything, and we need to keep talent flowing through the pipeline? Our 1st in 2019 is very important to sustaining the system. Jankowski and young guys like him are a big part of providing some cost control over our salary structure.

Carey Price took a team much worse than Calgary to the ECF, and Marc Bergevin is definitely someone you can trick. It's gotta be less lopsided than what you posted.
Make it Andersson, Dube, Bennett, Smith, Stone and a 1st, and book your tickets to the third round.

That particular deal doesn't, but trading Price makes a ton of sense for Montreal. They're not good enough, they need out from under that $80M, and nobody is coming to save them.
From Calgary's perspective, all of the good work Treliving does every off season is for nothing without a goalie. It was apparent last year, when they finally looked to be a real NHL team in front of Mike Smith for 40 games.
Price is better than Smith. He instantly makes this team a threat to win it all. They probably can't afford him/won't get him, but this is a Thornton to SJ level no brainer. And I don't want to miss out on something like that because of misplaced loyalty or affection for someone like Robyn Regehr.

It wouldn't cost that much. Straight up tho I would want Montreal to eat 1.5per year of that contract.

If it costs less than the collective of Andersson, Dube, Bennett, Smith, Stone and a 1st to acquire 2-time Olympic gold medalist and World Cup champion Carey Price, there is zero reason to not have already completed this deal. Salary retention be damned. This is Carey Price.
It's not even like the salary is hard to fit. Remove Smith, Bennett and Stone, and that's like $9.75M right there.
Make it so, Brad.

Price is from BC, his wife is from that area, how does he not end up in Vancouver? They'll need a starter soon enough. Price-Demko could be their pair going forward.

Injury history needs to be reviewed. Price has a lot of miles on that frame of his and he is starting to show signs of wearing out. He already has 558 games under his belt (30 more than Mike Smith) and suffered through an MCL injury in 2015-16 and then suffered through a major concussion in 2017-18. I don't see Price as a long term solution and I doubt he sees the end of this contract.

He doesn't need to see the end of it. He needs to be Carey Price for the next four or five years and it's worth it.

Vancouver is no stranger to horrible goaltender contracts. They're also no stranger to repeating bad decisions.

And what happens if he isn't Carey Price? That is one massive contract to be sitting on if his performance continues like last season. Too much risk involved based on the number of games he's played and the toll it has taken on his body. Imagine being saddled with a $10.5M goaltender who played like Price last season? Big salaries like this carry too much risk.

The same thing that happens now - we don't win because we don't have a goalie.
So do it.

Uh that doesn’t really work salary wise. Are you using Smith’s full contract or the salary retained amount actually counting against our cap. You still have to replace Bennett and Stone with players who make money as well.
Unless Brouwer is in the deal it doesn’t really fit in terms of the cap.

In: Price $10M
Out:
Bennett - $2.5M
Stone - 3M
Smith - $4.25
That's nearly $10M in NHL dollars changing hands. How doesn't it work?
Replace Bennett and Stone with journeymen vets/prospects - we're talking about our #5D and a middle 6 forward, we can't replace that on the cheap? Especially if we have Price in net?

The idea being that those contracts moving out would see their money spread out to more than one player. Tying up $10M over many years in one player with a recent history of debilitating injury seems like poor management/planning.
Unless you're Vancouver. Then you're all in.

Sid has a history of concussions and neck injuries and a 12 year contract. Anyone not trading for him in the last four years?
Price is the Sid of goalies.
