Gonna be some abject football coming from the bottom half now with everyone having a legit shot of getting to the final. Could legit be all games going to penalties.

I know that, but this is something that has been bothering me for years, those always look like judgement calls.
There Pique gets cleared out, did he have a scoring chance? It looked like it to me, but at the same time you see penalties given for lame crap nowhere near the goal.
Once it becomes a judgement call, you have to accept the call.
It wouldnt surprise me if that exact play was called another time and it wouldnt surprise me if it wasnt. Thats the inconsistency and in my opinion, with the advent of VAR I think so should be time to tighten up the rules on what should and shouldnt be a penalty.
Either way though, a heroic effort from Russia and just lacklustre from Spain.

4th penalty for Russians was a bit of luck. Powerful but somehow cleanly under the goalies backside, who went the right way.
