Flames CHL Prospects: 2024/25 season
A large influx of prospects in the CHL mainly thanks to 7 out of the 10 picks made by the Flames in 2024 being from the CHL and Gridin being taken 1st OA in the CHL import draft. Hurtig also signed his WHL contract with the Hitmen bringing the total to 9 new CHL prospects for the Flames.
LD Etienne Morin - 2023 2nd round 48th OA - Moncton Wildcats
https://www.eliteprospects.com/playe.../etienne-morin
C Jaden Lipinski - 2023 4th round 112th OA - Vancouver Giants
https://www.eliteprospects.com/playe...jaden-lipinski
LD Axel Hurtig - 2023 7th round 208th OA - Calgary Hitmen
https://www.eliteprospects.com/playe...15/axel-hurtig
RD Zayne Parekh - 2024 1st round 9th OA - Saginaw Spirit
https://www.eliteprospects.com/playe...4/zayne-parekh
RW Matvei Gridin - 2024 1st round 28th OA - rights held by Val-d'Or but expected to be traded
https://www.eliteprospects.com/playe.../matvei-gridin
LW Andrew Basha - 2024 2nd round 41st OA - Medicine Hat Tigers
https://www.eliteprospects.com/playe...6/andrew-basha
LW/RW Jacob Battaglia - 2024 2nd round 62nd OA - Kingston Frontenacs
https://www.eliteprospects.com/playe...acob-battaglia
RD Henry Mews - 2024 3rd 75th OA - Ottawa 67s
https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/577193/henry-mews
C Luke Misa - 2024 5th 150th OA - Mississauga Steelheads
https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/698042/luke-misa
C Hunter Laing - 2024 6th 170th OA - Prince George Cougars
https://www.eliteprospects.com/playe...4/hunter-laing
LD Eric Jamieson - 2024 6th 177th OA - Everett Silvertips
https://www.eliteprospects.com/playe.../eric-jamieson
Starts the season in the AHL but Flames have the option to send back to CHL
LW Parker Bell - 2022 5th round 155th OA - Tri City Americans
https://www.eliteprospects.com/playe...62/parker-bell
LW/C Samuel Honzek - 2023 1st round 16th OA - Vancouver Giants
https://www.eliteprospects.com/playe.../samuel-honzek
RD Hunter Brzustewicz - 2023 3rd round 75th OA - Kitchener Rangers
https://www.eliteprospects.com/playe...er-brzustewicz
Notes:
Lipinski qualifies to play in the AHL because he turns 20 before Dec 31. No indications that will be the case as the Flames have not signed him to a contract yet.
Gridin also qualifies to play in the AHL because he was drafted out of the USHL. If he does not like his options in the QMJHL, AHL is the most likely scenario.
Because Hurtig was drafted out of Europe, he also qualifies to play in the AHL. But given he signed with the Hitmen, AHL seems very unlikely.

Drury18 used to do a great job keeping track of the prospect stats. He had a spreadsheet and everything. I wonder what ever happened to him.

Life became too busy for CP once he was hired as President and GM of the Rangers.

My favourite thing about this site is all the information and analysis of flames prospects. You put so much work in, and I for one really really appreciate it.

No updates on the Gridin situation? Getting late in the summer and junior camps start up this week..
Maybe he sticks with Val d'Or?
I'm not the AHL is best alternative.

As mentioned in the Gridin draft thread, being reported that Gridin gets traded to Shawinigan at the start of the season.
In other news, looks like Medicine Hat is loading up:

Potential top line of Basha-Lindstrom-Ritchie

Kind of a weird trade.
Ritchie has more pedigree obviously, but Mrsic is no slouch and had an impressive season last year putting up similar numbers.
Tigers betting that they are buying low on Ritchie, selling high on Mrsic and that Ritchie will 'pop' on the loaded Tigers roster.
Also might have to do with McKenna and Ritchie having history together going back to Rink in Kelowna.

Per reports, Lipinski, Honzek, Gridin and Brzustewicz are going straight to Calgary (bypassing their junior camps). Gridin will presumably land in the QMJHL once he's released/re-assigned by the Flames sometime during NHL pre-season.
Sounds like everybody else will make pit-stops in with their junior teams before heading to Calgary.

Has there been any word at all on if the Flames have been thinking of sending Honzek back to junior? 76 total games in two seasons doesn’t make for much of a junior career.

That's what training camp is for. There's no reason to make that decision beforehand.
