Reviving this thread, as I feel like now is probably the best time for something like this. Been down a bit of a rabbit-hole today based on this image of Sergei Makarov that I came across on a random IG post:


Based on the Getty Image metadata this was taken on September 24, 1991, during pre-season game against Toronto. What I'm struggling with is who are the players sitting behind Sergei? I think that's Ronnie Stern over his left shoulder (on first glance I thought it was a Sutter brother, but I know it's not). Who are the two players on his right side? I'm totally stumped on this.

Edit: Could the player on the far right be a super young Sandy McCarthy? Without facial hair?

Thanks BL! Ok, based on this, it has to be Stern, Forslund and Sandy. Anyone object to that? On first glance Sandy without facial hair looks like an old veteran.

Also, wow, I totally forgot Darren Banks was in the CGY system for a few seasons. I give him all the respect in the world as he played 20 total NHL games (for Boston) and even scored two goals--but he might have been one of the worst players to ever play an NHL game, especially in the 90s. Based on memories from old VHS fight tapes (and YT clips) he had a super unique skating style. Beauty though, and tough as nails. The idea of him and Sandy on a line together probably scared a few teams that pre-season.

Ok, I am bringing this thread, once again, back from the dead. BobbyLouie, are you still around? Hoping you can help me with this one. It's a deep cut request for sure...

Do you happen to know if any images exist of Teemu Selanee in a Dale Hawerchuk era Jets jersey? Essentially the ones they wore up until the 91-92 season. Teemu's rookie year was 92-93, so I think the chances are slim, but I am more curious if maybe he wore one during a pre-season game? Being that he was drafted by WPG in 1988, I have to think he wore one at one point or another during a pre-season tilt. I don't know how deep your Pre-Season logs go, but is it possible WPG played CGY in a pre-season matchup between 1988 and 1992 and is there a slim chance that there is an image of Teemu in one of those games?

And yes, I know there is an image of him from a few years ago in the 80s style Jets jersey from an alumni game. But lets see if we can dig deeper. Thanks!
