Hope the kid is ok.

The fight reminded me a bit of a scrap from the early 90's when young Flame Alexander Godynyuk went out of his way to pick a scrap with Louie Debrusk.

That's where the similarities end.

Debrusk clearly didn't want to fight. Finally he obliged, ragdolled Godynyuk, and then shrugged his shoulders to the Flames as he skated to the box.

It was interesting to watch Brindamour in the post game.

You think OVi looked "proud" sitting in the box?

To land some blows to send a message, Knocking a kid out cold is not one of them. Ovi looked concerned afterwards and rightfully so.

No it isn't, no matter what the situation would be.

First of all, I hope hes okay, Ovechkin said. Im not a big fighter, and hes the same. He asked me to fight and said, Lets go. I hope hes okay. You dont want to see a guy get hurt or something.

What are you talking about? It's hockey. There's still fighting in hockey. It's not like they were strolling down the street and bumped elbows and then threw down. The kid wanted to take Ovechkin off the ice for five minutes and learned a tough lesson in the process. Just because he's a scorer doesn't mean he's weak.

Getting into a fight with someone while giving up 40lbs is a bad decision in hockey or otherwise, at the best of times. Even worse if it's your first and don't know what you're doing.

In any fight, the purpose is to hit someone and you arent going to let up while throwing punches. If you manage to land a couple shots flush, the chance of a KO is going to be heightend. Which in this case it did. Of course Ovi will be concerned after, thats is normal. But its also normal when in a fight, you throw to win.

Kid will learn, or at least I hope he does.

Yes it is, in a situation like this anyway. Someone starts something and you end it. GREAT FEELING! I don't think you have every been in or won a fight. Which is fine of course.

Kid learned what fighting can result in, and Ovi learned how quickly a well-landed punch can drop a kid.

I don't know what led to the fight, but there's no question that kid wanted to fight Ovi. Ovi obliged and started getting in the first punches. That's about all you can blame Ovi for, but is the alternative that Ovi lets the kid take a couple cracks at his chin to see what he's made of?

Ovi's not a fighter. So if he engages, he's going to try and win otherwise he's leaving hurt himself.

The fight didn't sit well with Svechnikov's older brother, who took to Instagram on Monday night to post, "One, two Freddy's coming for you," tagging Ovechkin's official account.
6'3, 205 lbs...at least he matches up better.

Just have to love this Wikipedia quote:

Quote:
On 15 April 2019, Svechnikov was knocked unconscious from hitting his head on the fist of Alexander Ovechkin during a fight in Game 3 of the 2019 Stanley Cup playoffs against the Washington Capitals.

Anyone that willingly drops the gloves has to realize getting knocked out is a possibility. I don't blame Ovechkin at all here. I'm pretty positive Jarome Iginla would have done the same thing if challenged to a fight in a hotly contested playoff series.

I'm all for the argument that fighting should be eliminated from hockey, but right now it's legal. Ovechkin didn't plan to knock the kid out, but it happened. That sucks. But those are the risks when you fight in the NHL.

He’s actually listed at 212 now. Seems he put on a little weight.

From what I recall this kid was in Ovies face quite a lot in game 1 or 2, from what I recall watching and the pbp was commenting on how it was a great thing as it showed he wasn’t going to back down from anyone including Ovie in the playoffs.

These Svechnikov brothers seem to think they are tougher than they are. The elder one picked a fight with Prout last season.

Except you cant expect Ovie to measure the niceties of his blows.

If he gave him half punches, it might be Ovie on the ice.
