He'll be considered elite in the NHL sooner than most think.

You've been "Colborned."

verb

Where no other comparable fits, said player is compared awkwardly to Joe Colborne.

If we're talking about comparing career trajectories, well, Valimaki is light years ahead. Of course, he'll have to catch up to Giordano's incredible improvement in his late-20s and early-30s, but as it stands, he's on a good pace.

Dunno about light years ahead. Gio was small-ish and mobile player in an era of obstruction. He forced the round peg into a square hole for years until the NHL decided to burr the square into a round shape (for regular season anyways). Gio would never be up for a Norris if clutch and grab were still viable. If Vali is even 0.8(Gio) by the end of the next contract, that's a grand-slam draft pick.

Knew we got a good one here when I saw him dominate in junior. Should’ve been playing the entire series but oh well

He looks like a future #1 D-man.

Right now it looks like he can comfortably accept assignments on the 2nd pair, PK and PP. With the emergence of Andersson and Kylington, I was really excited. Then this kid comes along and looks like he's about to outpace both of them. Good times.

and to me, I can see why people would say Hedman, but my long term hope is a Scott Niedermayer wannabe.. smart and smooth.. I realize that's a lofty goal

Hope to see him improve over the next couple years to take the torch from Gio as our top defenseman. I see a progression towards being a very similar player to Zack Werenski or a slightly more defensive/less offensive version of Roman Josi.
