[The Athletic] Joe Colborne details his career-ending concussion
This is great stuff from Duhatschek. I always wondered why Joe just... stopped playing at the beginning of the last AHL season. Here's why.

Why the click-baity thread title... when the reason is in the hyperlink text?
I know we try not to affect the Athletic subscription chances by posting any actual text from the articles here, but not even the title is a bit lame.
Edit: Looks like the thread has been edited, thanks to Scorp or the mod who did it.
Edit 2: I do have a subscription, I just didn't like the Buzzfeed style thread start.

-He had a back injury in his first season with the Avs which derailed things for him getting demoted to the AHL.
-Felt he had a good offseason and came to camp realizing he wasn't in the Avs plans and was sent to San Antonio. His 4th game of the season an innocent collision left him with a headache and he played the next game feeling good but after that it was all downhill as sitting on the couch the TV would start moving and he would get vertigo, etc.
-Visited concussion specialists and went to a special institute and things were looking up as he started feeling better feeling he could get his career on track.
-As a free agent he trained hard in the summer but deeper into the summer his symptoms started coming back worse and worse so he decided to pack it in and just focus on being healthy again.
-He's got his life back now and can do light exercise.
-He's now exploring options for the nest stage of his career.

The title is marked [The Athletic], why even enter the thread if you don't own a subscription?

because although I may not have a subscription I am interested in what the article talks about and for the ensuing discussion?

Because there is a thread dedicated to the Athletic subscription articles. I find it aggravating and annoying when I see a title and click on it to read the article but need a subscription. If CP was making money off the Athletic that would be a different story but these paid to read stories from anywhere don't belong here. Some of the Athletic articles are free to read and that is fine but pay to read belongs in the dedicated Athletic thread.

sorry guys... I just saw the article and posted it. I forgot the dedicated Athletic thread existed. And I meant to write "concussion" in the title, I'll change that

And? If my I claim my business has the best whatever should I be able to advertise my product on here but you have to pay to see it? Not to mention the board does not make anything off of it , a board with many talented writers themselves. I think pay to read articles at the least belong in the Athletic thread.

I would have missed it in the Athletic thread. I don't know what the harm is in an extra thread for an interesting topic. People can discuss the content of the article, we've only asked they don't copy and paste the content.
I think the way it was handled, with a dedicated thread, noting in the topic that it is an Athletic article is just fine

No, it really is not fine without adding in the thread title it is a pay to read article when some of the Athletic articles are free to read. Otherwise as seen earlier in the thread you are going to have some disgruntled posters who cannot read the content after clicking it. Putting subscription needed in the title would fix that issue and is not a big deal to add. As I said, many of the Athletic articles are a free read so I assumed as many will this was a free read. Just easier if something in the title indicates a subscription is needed.

Joe Colborne needed an injury to get out of hockey? I always assumed that people just stopped noticing that he was there and nobody ever thought of asking him to leave.

What does clicking on a thread, seeing what is in it, and clicking back really impact though?
I spend time on CP when I'm waiting for something to finish, or I'm looking for entertainment. I totally get having a suggestion, but I'm confused about the stress these things cause

It costs $10 to start a thread man. What...did you think these things were free?

I don't know if people are really digruntled by it. Atleast I wasn't I wasn't. In the case its a paid article you just need to ask for a little elaboration and summarization is all, which frankly I dont think any poster, especially the person who started the thread, would have any problem providing
