Dallas (39-31-6-84) @ Calgary (47-22-7-101) 7:30pm (SN1, SNW)
The Calgary Flames play their second of a three game home stand tonight at the Scotiabank Saddledome against the Dallas Stars.
Projected starters, not confirmed at the time of posting:
https://leftwinglock.com/starting-goalies
Calgary Flames - David Rittich
Dallas Stars – Ben Bishop
The Flames look to hold onto top spot in the West. With the San Jose Sharks sliding having lost 6 in a row, this is a chance to solidify the top spot in the Western Conference.
Meanwhile the Dallas Stars are trying to hold onto the top Wild Card spot; the standings are tight with four teams within five points of each other, and only two spots available.
Overall records:
Calgary Flames 47-22-7-101
Dallas Stars 39-31-6-84
The game will be broadcast on SportsNet 1, it’s a national broadcast meaning we can all hit the 15 second rewind feature on our remotes! It will also be on SportsNet West for those that may not have the national station.
Go Flames Go

I hate when the Flames play the stars, guys like Benn and Seguin always seem to elevate their game and Bishop usually goes God Mode too.
Should be a good bounce back game. If Bennett is playing I think they score 5 goals.
4-1 Flames

Bishop has been god mode most of the season. His .932 SV% is pretty amazing when you consider the goaltending equipment tweaks have deflated goaltender stats a bit this season. Stars will be a handful in the playoffs if Benn and Seguin come to play. When you consider how well Bishop is playing and how Benn and Seguin torch the Flames this is probably as bad a match-up for the Flames as there is.

An OT win would be the ideal outcome here - would rather not face Dallas in the first round, so better if they stay ahead of the other wildcards. 2-1 Flames, Johnny with the OT winner!

Hopefully we see a much better effort from our (new) 1st line tonight in this potential 1st round matchup. Getting an answer to Bishop early will put that series into early focus, and another night from Johnny is well needed for them RN
As a reminder, here's how the lines looked yesterday in practice:
Gaudreau-Ryan-Frolik
Tkachuk-Backlund-Lindholm
Neal-Monahan-Czarnik/Bennett
Mangiapane-Jankowksi-Hathaway
That 2nd line is going to be a blast to watch, and I'm looking forward to seeing Monahan get some reps against lesser competition. Good to see an opportunity for him and Neal on the same line... but I have my doubts that Czarnik or Bennett will be a good pairing for 2 planted shooters.
Gonna be a good tilt!
Looking like Rittich vs Bishop tn

If I'm a Dallas fan though I'm wondering what the chances are of Bishop making it through a seven game series without getting hurt.

I understand splitting up the top line, and distributing the wealth around the lineup. But, Frolik is not the first player that comes to mind when thinking of a player that will get Johnny going again..

Frolik is the definition of a streaky player and he's had that jump in his step the last few games. I don't think anyone in the world sees this as a permanent solution but he should be a good fit for a game or two while Monahan and Lindholm maybe get a bit of motivation from being demoted.

Wow, those are some pretty amazing numbers from Bishop this year. Vezina-calibre.
Hope we can light him up for 4 or 5, and get the PP going again. GFG!

That's the knock on him but with a cap hit of only $5 million that deal actually looks pretty good.

I am not convinced that the lines from practice yesterday will be those to start the game tonight.

DAL are good team and will be a tough test. CGY have shown all year that they can win games in many different ways. For CGY they key is to focus on their details, raise their compete levels and allow their skills and smarts to shine through.
When they move the puck quickly away from forecheckers, exit clean and make plays they do extremely well. Peters and staff have been excellent at countering opponents game plans and having the team prepared.
CGY just needs to stay in the rhythm that has them playing incredible hockey and execute like they can.

We need to start getting traffic in front of the opposition goalie. Last game any goalie would have looked like a world beater . This needs to be everyone's responsibility and not just #19 ffs. This team just has little fixes to make in the physicality department and it will take them a long way.
