Flames March 26 Practice Notes. Bennett returns. New forward lines

Pat Steinberg @Fan960Steinberg
Sam Bennett back at practice this afternoon. He’s missed four of the last five games with an upper body injury. #Flames

I think he was really missed last night. Good to see he'll probably be back against the Stars.

Looks like top line is being broken up.

Pat Steinberg @Fan960Steinberg
Interesting to see Sean Monahan and Johnny Gaudreau wearing different coloured jerseys at practice. We’ll see if they run line rushes today. #Flames

Derek Wills @Fan960Wills
Based on jersey colours at practice, #Flames could be making some changes. Derek Ryan in red (like top-six), Sean Monahan in white. Stay tuned.

Good. Monahan has been a passenger on the top line for a while.

I'm impressed that the coach is sending Monahan a clear message.

Interesting. Neal and Monahan together will be like Molasses though.

Would like Tkachuk-Monahan-Lindholm as well.

Gotta say Frolik's earned that spot, too.

If what's reported is true in that Neal is such a respected guy in the lockerroom, could be tactic to put Mony with him for a couple of games, get his confidence back up and get back on the rails. Lets just hope Mony doesn't mirror Neal's scoring touch as well though...

Man. Which of those lines gets Seguin-Benn-Whoever?

I assume Tkachuk-Backlund-Lindholm

Ryan had looked alright with Gaudreau in the few games that Monahan had missed. Hopefully this sparks some confidence for Johnny, Monahan and Lindholm. We need them firing on all cylinders for the playoffs. They can always be moved back as a unit, once they find their scoring touch.

Not a fan of these at all. Johnny with Ryan and Frolik?

Johnny is doing it all himself anyways, maybe the thought it get him with two defensive forwards who can pitch in?

Also might just be a cage rattling after a crappy game

This is what has impressed me about Peters. He's shown he's not a blender guy that's constantly promoting/demoting players based what have you done for me lately as the message starts to ring hollow after a while. He knows who his best players are and he's willing to let the top guys work through their issues which is what a good coach should do. You know when he makes a change like this it's because he's seen enough and it's a clear message to the players that they haven't been good enough. The timing is right as a few weeks before the playoffs is when you want to start sending messages as it will be too late in the playoffs.

Johnny played well with Ryan while Monahan was sitting out. I see no reason to break this up. Also, Frolik goes hard into the corners, and can probably dish to the other two fairly easily. I think it's worth a try.

Really excited for Tkachuk/Backlund/Lindholm, that's going to be a great tandem.

Well Frolik of late has been one of the few forwards willing to drive to the net so I don't have any issue with it on a short term basis. The coach is trying to get Monahan, Gaudreau, and Lindholm going and it's clear that's not going to happen playing together.

Tkachuk with Lindholm would be interesting.
