We seem to own Colorado. Conversely, the Stars own us. Just one of those things.
Edit: also, there are no easy outs in the playoffs. Period.

The problem is that all four of the potential #8's either have good goaltending or good defense. Dallas has Bishop, Colorado with Varlamov and Grubauer, Minnesota with Dubnyk and Arizona doesn't allow much.
Colorado's defense concerns me the least. Having the 3M line to shut the other team's top line down really hampers Colorado's ability to do much.

Kuemper has been the best of the bunch for the last couple months.
And yeah, Colorado's D is weaker than the others. The Flames have always been able to generate a lot against them.

We've dealt with plenty of "hot goalies" over the season and at the end of it all are still leading the conference, but the flames have quite a lot of confidence against the avs. Colorado also plays a similar way to the Flames, with speed and transition (and more open ice than other teams allow) which tips things in cgys favor further as they don't rely on their top line as much as Colorado does and could beat them with their depth lines still if the top lines were kept in check.
Grubauer probably will cool off a little over 8 games and 3 weeks. If he sustains it then that's one hell of a streak.

The vacuum cleaner has already sucked up the Kings and now the Ducks, Oilers, and Canucks are losing their grip. The Canucks are fatigued and the BJs are well rested.
The Blackhawks can thank the Penguins for beating the Stars.

honestly if Calgary can't beat any of these WC teams (Dallas included) there is no point in moving on anyway. These are all low 80s point teams with only a handful of games left....they all kinda suck

For sure. But the fewer games you can do it in, the more energy you save for the later rounds.

Maybe, the last two times the Flames went to the Finals they went 7 games and OT in the first round

Columbus makes it 4-0! Bobrovski is going for the shutout.

I swear some people want the Flames to have a bye into the finals. Every first round team is going to have good players to watch for. Just not as many as Calgary.

And - at least in 04 - they ran out of gas. Every game matters.

And if something weird happens to the Blues and they fall to 8th place, their hot goalie is Binnington.

When the Flames went to the Finals in 86, they went to game 7 in the 2nd and 3rd round.
