AMC: The Terror - No book talk until series over
Anyone decide to watch this over the disappointing Flames last night? It's a Ridley Scott 10 episode horror set on The Terror and Erebus ships going through the Northwest passage. The first 2 episodes are very well done. Looking forward to the rest.

I read the book on which it is based and really enjoyed it. Need to watch this.

Short of an Adam Sandler Netflix movie that's not saying much. That said this is on my list of shows to watch.

I thought those first two episodes were really well done. It's a slow burner, but I like it so far. They must have had a decent effects budget as well, because the CGI looks pretty damn good.

It was excellent.
First two episodes of True Detective excellent. Wanted to binge the whole thing following episode 1.

Just finished the first two episodes and I enjoyed them. The changes from the book are of course going to annoy me a bit, as it's one of my favorite books ever, but the quality of the show looks like it will still be excellent.
I was wondering how they were going to handle Lady Silence being a mute... I guess just not making her a mute was how they decided to handle it. If anything takes the show off the rails, I think this will be it. But I'm optimistic that it won't make or break anything.
I have some spoilery thoughts as well, but I'll save them for later after the events have happened in the show.

Fantastic so far but I'm hoping the whole thing with the bear is kept understated, I can see it potentially getting really ridiculous. Would be a great touch if it was some kind of hallucination brought about by lead poisoning, it would be a neat way to introduce some supernatural horror to the scenario that maintains the integrity of the historical events, but I haven't read the book so I have no idea where they're going with it.
Also what the hell is the deal with AMC's asymmetrical cable/digital distribution? It's like they actively want people to pirate it or something.

Yup. I'm subscribed to AMC and thought I could just go to my On Demand section yesterday and find the first 2 episodes there. Nope. I had to seek out some unsavory means to catch up when I had time.

I thought it was the polar bear? Surprised they killed off Sir John Franklin so soon. I like this show so far, some good plot lines and characters already.

really enjoying it... great production values and a great cast.
Jared Harris has been one of my favorite actors since Fringe, so it cool to see him getting all these other fantastic roles...
its a shame that its only 10 episodes (i am presuming here) because it is so well done

It seems a little too intelligent for a polar bear. Why would it dump the captain down the hole just like how the crew did it to the old man? As well it brought the daughter a fish.

What a thrill to see a favourite authors work come to life on TV.
Really enjoying it, decided to read the book again along with watching.
Now how do we get Hyperion on TV?
btw one of the first crew men to die and be buried on Beechy was John Torrington. They did the autopsy on him after being dead and buried for 150 years, and because he was frozen I guess, he looks pretty life like for a guy who died in the mid 1800's.
Google his name.

I love stuff like this. Here's is a pretty great article about him, and the exhumation process:

As the team continued to thaw the ice in the coffin it became apparent that Torrington's face was covered in fabric. When this fabric was removed, the team got the most unexpected fright of their lives. John Torrington was starring back at them, literally. It would be a moment they would never forget.
