What do you guys recommend as a good novice hill? Both my wife and I haven't skid in a long while, but want to get into it again, and figured we'd start with something a bit easy. Ideally something that's a day trip from the city.

Just go to COP for an evening for a couple of warm up laps, then you don't even have to leave town.

PS, Louise is now opening tomorrow, so apparently forget I said anything about anything ever.

Nakiska is about as good as it's going to get for an OK hill that is close to town and is pretty cheap. If you aren't a serious skier and you want to get a few turns in, have a few bevvies and kill a day while feeling like you got outside that's probably my recommendation. You will never get your money's worth anywhere else IMO.

Does Sportchek still have the trade-in program? You used to be able to a setup for around $200 ($260 with boots) and get a 50% trade-in credit towards a pair next season as well.
Yeah that was all in boots, skis, bindings.

The problem with COP is it can be no fun sometimes, dependent in the snow conditions. it can be icy and crowded, that can turn new skiers off.

The Unofficial Oral History of ‘Hot Dog… The Movie’

It has a paint-by-numbers plot, loads of sexism and gratuitous nudity, and a screenplay full of tired racial stereotypes. It’s also the highest-grossing ski movie of all time. Frederick Reimers and Sam Moulton uncover the true story behind every skier’s favorite cult classic.

Looking to up my game this year and go cat skiing for the first time.

Any recos? I'm seriously considering going at Castle ($399), since I love it there anyways. I was also looking at Fortress, but the price goes up to $475 Feb 21 - March 31. Ideally it would be somewhat close. I keep hearing stories about a place near Jasper with an unreal pizza oven on site though...

Castle was decent and really good for a first time out. They access it via the resort so if you want to skip a lap you can warm up in the lodge. Also they used to give discounts with a Louise (IIRC) Card. However you can also access their terrain with some touring gear quite easily.

If you feel like venturing a bit further K3 out of Revy/Sicamous is amazing.

I've been going to Chatter Creek in the first week of January for the past 10 years. Amazing place. Great lodge, great snow, amazing terrain, great food, etc.

Your chances of getting anything but a last minute cancellation seat this year are pretty much zero. Most returning guest have already booked their seats this year 3 weeks after their trip last year. If you look at their 2018 availability, all they have are some seats in March.

The best way to ensure you have a great cat skiing trip is to fill up the cat with people you know. There is nothing worse than having folks join your cat and have a complete different skill set (read: worse). You can generally only ski terrain that's suitable to the lowest skilled person in your cat. A good guide will minimize the pain but it's still an issue. You don't have to be the best or fastest skier, but skiing in deeper untracked steep terrain takes a different kind of skill than resort skiing.

There's a Canadian special at the moment for the Mountain Collective. It's at par with USD.

That's actually a pretty good deal for those skiing Louise/Sunshine.

Actually wish I had ordered that before I got my Sunshine card.

Managed to hit Kicking Horse the first day of this storm cycle. Super and Crystal Bowls were both fantastic.

A little disappointed as a friend and I went out to Nakiska today (Saturday) and no go. Then they told us they were going to try at 11, but then they would have to run for an hour before they let anyone on them. We wound up leaving.

Frustrating part is they never really made any general announcement, my buddy kept getting updates by walking over to guest services.

Even more frustrating was that the hill looked good. In the few runs we had I was warm.

Bought a condo in Fernie and I've been skiing every day since the 26th. I need new legs. And knees. Possibly a job in the new year. I think I'm on Day 10 or 12 total so far?

I still can't stop though. Every day has been a powder day, and we all know the rules.
